Rymes Ceramics brown and gold pottery vase with "Yosemite," pine cones and serenity prayer motifs. Rymes is known for its mid-century souvenir pottery, mostly western, and often with these colors and pine cone motif. 5.25" wide, 3.5" high. Fine condition.
In 1927 Arthur James (A.J.) Rymes (1902-1982) of the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, presented a paper titled "Physical and Chemical Studies of Some Nebraska Clays" at the Nebraska Academy of Sciences. In 1928 he published a paper titled "Some Investigations of a Nebraska Clay", in the Journal of the American Ceramic Society, 11: 46–60, in which he reviewed the literature on the fluxing action of different metallic oxides on clays. Whether this ceramicist is of the same family as Rymes Ceramics is not clear, as little is known about the company.
