Silk embroidery art was invented in China over 2,500 years ago. This high quality silk art is created using embroidery techniques developed from the world famous Suzhou style of silk embroidery. Each piece contains over 100,000 stitches on average.

This embroidery of a Song Dynasty painting features two sunbirds. Though pictured together in this piece, sunbirds are considered a symbol of independence and freedom, often seen flying upwards and against the wind--symbolic of being daring and challenging authority. The Song Dynasty was considered the Golden Age for Chinese painting and birds were a primary subject of paintings from this era.
