Baby Gates and Child Safety

58 Results
You have a little one on the way. Congratulations! Now it's time to baby proof your home. Ensuring your child is safe is top priority, and there are a lot of innocent household items that are dangerous for little kids. There are a lot of helpful safety products out there: cabinet locks prevent jammed fingers, baby gates prevent falls, corner guards protect sharp corners, and bed rails or crib rails help avoid nighttime tumbles. Before you start baby proofing your space, here are some child safety considerations:

What requires baby proofing in my home?

As you consider what items need your attention, think about things that can slam, fall, burn or otherwise harm your child. Kitchen cabinets and drawers might need cabinet locks, while door locks come in handy for heavier doors that might harm little fingers. Baby gates and safety gates help block off stairs and uneven terrain, while corner guards can safeguard the sharp edges on coffee tables and counters. You can even protect toddlers from falling out of bed with bed rails or crib rails.

What about child safety for toddlers and older children?

Kids safety is just as important as the safety of a newborn, especially since they're up walking (and running) around. Even though door locks and cabinet locks are no longer needed, safety gates continue to be helpful as your child matures, especially in areas that are off limits during playtime. If you have bunk beds, you might also find value with adding a bed rail to the top bunk, especially for kids who toss and turn at night. Even though you can't protect them from every bump and scrap, you can prevent minor accidents with just a few small changes.
