Alex has done 2 major remodels for us, and several smaller updates, in a home that we have owned for 26 years. We have been completely satisfied with all aspects of her work, from planning, to structural changes, to color, to furniture, window treatments. She has an artistic sensibility that is evident in all of her work.

Alex Luhrs was the interior designer for our last home and has begun work on our new home. We wouldn't use anyone other than Alex even though we have changed states! Not only did Alex guide us through selecting furniture, art work, paint, accessories, draperies, rugs and wallpaper, she also did the design for a complete remodel - starting from studs - of our kitchen, family room, master bedroom and bathroom. The remodel involved adding 1000 square feet to a 3000 square foot house. Alex is a brilliant designer. She has an impeccable eye for color, form and function, as well as completely understanding the preferences of her client. She was able to stretch our horizons without violating any of our sensibilities. She also is very attuned to the feel of the space she's working with so that everything is appropriate, while being fresh and interesting. Our new home, a Tudor built in 1932 at 6300 square feet, presents some unusual challenges. Our living room, which has a 15 foot ceiling with very large wooden beams has been designed using much of our existing furniture with some recovering and new draperies. It is stunning. I mention this because Alex has a very practical side in that she is happy to use what will work, even if it doesn't line her own pocket. Alex is the best of the best. I have and will continue to recommend her without reservation.

Alex's eye for style is guided by her lifelong exposure to her Grandmother's accomplished oil paintings depicting life and nature here in the Bay Area. Alex easily balances space, color, and materials with her client's objectives, producing a project that has the overall feeling of artistry mixed with reality. Timeless rooms that you want to spend time in! Alex's depth of experience also includes her ability to fully design kitchens through the AutoCAD process. She understands cabinet construction and detailed architectural elements. Alex was my chief consultant for a new landscaped surrounding our home.

We are a custom interior sewing business. We do all the custom slipcovers, pillows, cushions and bedding when we work with Alexandra Luhrs Design on projects. Alex Luhrs most recently did a complete redesign of my kitchen and family room, although, I have used her to redesign my entire two story home over time. The goal was to update and upgrade both spaces to something that would stand the test of time, as we are retired, and integrate with the rest of the home. Alex always inspires us with her designs, and this was no exception. It was simple, elegant and gave us, not only more space, but a more intimate feel which was one our goals. She managed to our budget and helped us to make the best investments with hardwood floors, granite, slate, tile design, beautiful custom cabinets, lighting and beautiful new fabrics and accessories. Sometimes we re-upolstered, other times we bought new. Alex always addressed the construction/design issues that arose during the process in the most expeditious, and pragmatic manner. We never had the remodel nightmares one hears about. She worked closely with our contractor who rated her cooperation extremely high. The end product is, as always, more than we expected - fabulous!
