I am a heating contractor with a major bone to pick with the manufacturer of a Savannah gas stoves.
Shortly after installing this stove, problems began, which did not allow the flame to stay on more than a few minutes, turned out to be gas valve not supplying enough pressure to keep the pilot flame signal from igniting the burner. Replaced gas valve. Worked for a week. No warranty ( just past) Next, the ignition module failed. No warranty. Replaced that on my own dime to save face with my customer. Next, gas valve failed again. No warranty, again absorbing my time and expense to make sure my customer was happy. Next, i had to replace the pilot assembly because the orifice was too small to envelope the flame sensor. No warranty. Next the original gas valve that was replaced, failed again.
Multiple calls to tech support, but most of the support was not helpful to resolve the issues.
Customer is beyond upset. No offers or concessions on the part of the factory to cover my many trips to this out of town location, as it is not in their policy to cover anything beyond the warranty period, in light of the many issues encountered. Will never again install one of these units.
I do know the problems were all related to the gas and controls system, which Savannah does not manufacture, but is sourced out, however they need to review the control systems they use, and offer more quality if they expect loyal customers.
End of rant

If I could write “0” I would.
Jan 2020. We purchased an Essence 45 based on the owner Murray stating by email we could vent the fireplace to 40’. The Technical Safety authority did a gas inspection and rejected inspection due to manufacturers guidelines. Now “Murray” the owner will not refund the cost of the Essence 45 even though we have Murray’s email stating we can vent the fireplace to 40 feet.
A manufacturer should stand behind their product.
This is unprofessional and unethical not to refund the consumer.

Comment from Savannah Heating Products:
We are sorry you are experiencing such difficulties with the installation of your product. We have been working diligently with Ecco Heating and Technical Safety, which perhaps you may not be aware, regarding your situation. As a manufacturer, we communicate directly with the distributor and in this case, your discussions should be directly with your installer. Conclusions have arisen that it seems the original install was incorrectly performed which is not a reflection on the product itself. We guarantee our product provided it is installed by a professional licensed installer who also should carry their own installation warranty.

I agree with Rick! 100's of fireplaces over 22 years without a single issue. Now thousands of dollars to fix and angry buyers to fix 19 Savannah units installed. Melted TV's, overheated cracked drywall, terrible service, no follow up care. All installed according to their specifications. Salesman was bad-mouthing me to my buyers! No warranty. Absolutely the worst product I have installed in ANY houses I have built in all the years! Overheated. Had to install fan kits in all and back venting to make them usable. No compensation form them. TERRIBLE!

We apologize for your negative experience. Savannah manufactures thousands of fireplaces annually, with 40% of our sales resulting from the BL936, our best selling builders line, which is the fireplace you mentioned is causing problems. We take all of our reviews seriously.
After speaking directly with the contact person from Savannah, we have been able to dig deeper into the issue. A representative was sent to your job site to review your concerns and issues were discovered that were not complicit with the installation specifications which created the outcome you are currently experiencing. Unfortunately, the issues that arose do not have any direct link to the fireplace itself, but to the install.
If you wish to discuss this further, please contact the head office at (604) 231-8923.

Savannah has been a trusted supplier to us for many years. It is easy to get in contact with them whenever we have any questions, and they always have the answers or are willing to find out in a very short time. We have loved to see them develop over the years, listening to their customers, learning from each unit sold, and developing fireplace technology that is years ahead of competitors. Savannah is a company that will be here to stay, representing Canada in the best possible ways. Thanks for all of your help over the years Savannah, we look forward to continue to recommend your product for years to come.

I have installed about 100 fireplaces of different makes and models. I have installed 12 Savannah fireplaces and have heat issues with all of them. This fireplace runs extremely hot. The walls surrounding the fireplace are so hot that the paint is turning black. TV's mounted above them have melted. Wall temperature is 185 degrees celcius. I wish i never installed any of tehse as they have been nothing but a nightmare for my company. Savannah was not willing to do anything regarding the issue except sell me a fan kit which they think may reduce the heat issue. I would not recommend purchasing this product.

Hello Rick,
After further investigation into your review, it has come to our attention that the fireplaces you are referring to are not OUR brand of fireplaces. Although our Ontario sales staff have come out to look at your issues, they are not actually viewing the installation of one our of fireplaces, but rather one of our competitors. If you would like to further discuss this issue, please contact us directly. Otherwise, we kindly ask that you remove this review and contact the correct manufacturer so they may be made aware of your issues. Thank you.

I needed a fireplace that actually provided heat, rather than just a cosmetic one. However I was saddled with living in a townhouse, so was restricted as to what I was allowed to do (no exterior changes permitted). Savannah advertised a new -allegedly efficient, heat-producing - fireplace that conformed with the existing exterior ventilation. An AB19 I believe it's called.
The salesman came out, took some pictures, showed a picture of what it would look like and gave me an estimate. A date was set for the install which got muddled somewhere, but was rectified in due course. The salesman, an installer and an assistant / apprentice came out for the install, which was done efficiently and - I believe - professionally (I know nothing about fireplaces coming from Hawaii). I was given the remote control that came with the unit and an instruction manual. An earnest effort was made to explain how to use the very complicated remote. It was too complicated - and the controls too tiny) for me to manage so I asked them to just set it for an On / Off function.
I still had problems with the remote which was the only way to operate the unit. It would turn itself on and stay on indefinitely. I was away for a month and came home to a gas bill double the cost of my usual one. Then the remote blew itself up. The batteries were apparently defective or some such. Savannah sent out a new remote and once again instructions given, which I dutifully wrote down again. Apparently I hadn't been turning the unit off properly!
The worst problem however is the heat - or lack thereof - that the unit produces. I had it on for for than an hour and couldn't get it higher than 76F at the highest settings. It barely heated my living room, let alone any other adjacent rooms. Plus, I had my (electric baseboard ) thermostat set at 70F and the outdoor temp was only about 62F, which should have made it easier. An old gas fireplace from my previous home in a much, much colder climate produced blazing hot temps that heated the whole floor in no time so that is what I was expecting.
I can't comment on the efficiency of the unit as it seems I was at fault for it turning itself on all the time - will have to wait for the next gas bill for that. But I can comment on the lack of heat it provides. Maybe it's because it had to conform to existing ventilation but if that is the case, I just wasted $3000 and should have bought an electric fireplace instead for a lot less money and perhaps more heat.
Bottom line, I don't think this unit is worth the money or the aggravation. Too complicated a remote and not enough heat to justify it or the cost of the unit.

It's unfortunate that these issue arose on a fireplace you installed. We offer a one year warranty on our products and are lenient with a grace period so it seems that these issues did not occur shortly after installation but well after the initial warranty and potential grace period. After speaking to the office, I do not believe you went direct to the manufacturer with your concerns as we do not have any record of calls with you in regards to these issues.
Without knowing the full picture and only reading what you have written above, it appears that many parts were changed that had not actually failed. Again, only from reading what you have written, and speaking to the department that deal with issues such as this, it sounds more like a blockage in the orifice.
Perhaps this issue is not really with the manufacturer directly but with the tech support you spoke to or the retailer you worked with for the parts.
Hopefully you were able to assist your customer with their issues in the end.
