Many designers don't charge for an initial consultation. This would be a good way to discuss the scope of your project, go over budget, and to get a better understanding of what services they'll provide so you can see if a designer is the right fit for you.

People always associate girls with the color pink, good designers can bring the femininity out of any color and pattern. I personally like to see other colors used for girls' rooms.

My 4.5 year old daughter loves pink. Oh, excuse me, only hot pink...not light pink. She will tell people her favorite color is: "Hot pink-purple-red." I don't think it has to do with all the stuff marketed towards girls, it just truly is her favorite, so in redoing her room with a big girl bed, I made sure to include all three of those colors. I do think that the guilt trip grown women have if they actually still LIKE pink is equally offensive, as if it's wrong to like pink past age 5. Just saying! :) Decorate with what she likes--that always wins! Here is my very happy daughter in her very pink room (not quite finished yet.) Warning: it's not very "Houzz" style.

Has the original poster ever returned? I had no idea that the color pink could cause so much ruckus, I love pink personally. My girls purple room was inspired by a pottery barn toddler quilt I bought and I kick myself for not buying the matching twins, I totally use bedding as inspiration for color..

Cappricorncita, as you said there are only two houses with front facing doors. Perhaps if someone would photoshop how painting it same as house it would make more attractive...along with sample photos of other houses in design magazines have done this as recommended. Take that to your HOA for an exemption for front facing garages or change bi-laws that allow homeowners to use their same house colour.
Tell them they are "on the wrong side of good design"!!!!

Remove most of the wood. Having one or two wood walls could add a nice accent (painted wood walls look great) but having that much wood, especially going in different directions, is way to overpowering.

Thank you Dawson & Clinton and leelee! I agree with both of you! I love the personal touch that it added. It feels almost too plain now. Eclecticism is life itself. Who doesn't like mixed flowers bouquets? Who hasn't hated one color when younger to simply love it later on? Life is not just one thing, one idea, one momentum, one and only one color, one and only this and that. It is a path comprised of many different things that grace our journey.

adivra - Not sure what you mean by losing cabinet space. Our client actually gained an extra cabinet from the previous layout of the kitchen. Prior to our remodel, they only had one 24" cabinet and two small cabinets. Now they have one 36" inch wall cabinet, and three 30" wall cabinets - two of them being the horizontal lift in the middle. The high gloss white is a popular style in the DC metro region and the fridge wall cabinets match the wall cabinets on the window wall.

Shouldn't a kitchen blend with the rest of the house? When I did mine I switched from thinking I wanted white or cream to a walnut stain becausesome of the kitchen is visible from the front door and I realized it needed to be cohesive with the furniture. So glad I didn't do white.

Its more luxurious to have a bathtub and a shower (especially since its a master bedroom). The master bedroom is usually where the grand bathroom is located. It would definitely add resale value, but it wouldn't be the end of the world to not include one, especially if there's a tub located somewhere else in the house.

As long as the home has one tub in one bath in the house you can make the Master a large shower and forgo the tub in every bathroom idea. Realtors say this is what buyers are responding to, so no lost value. It boils down to whether you personally want a tub or not.

While the shower will see much more use having a separate soaking tub adds a sense of luxury. If you enjoy relaxing baths it might feel a bit uncomfortable having to use a tub shared with the kids or one in an area that isn't close to your own bedroom.

Nice entry there, and I will definitely agree with Shakuff, above. You really need a big chandelier or long ceiling lighting to make the space more bright and rich! Also, as you love the pictures, you should hang a lot of large framed ones on the wall, on stairs. A great round rug, and of course the entry console with a mirror-you can add two table lamps and a painting if you don't want the mirror. Hope you enjoy the pics and find some nice ideas for your home! jk

For the area above the stove, take the backsplash all the way up to the hood. For the rest of the wall, it depends on your personal preference and what kind of blacksplash you are using. Certain kinds will look neat and flow well even if the entire wall is covered, whereas I wouldn't cover the entire wall in others.

I think I may add floating shelves on either side of the hood for balance. Otherwise I think I would have gone to the ceiling. Just doing basic white subway tile but adding a glass insert for a pop of color.
