Schwartz and Architecture
The inspiration for the remodel of this San Francisco Victorian came from an unlikely source – the owner’s modern-day cabinet of curiosities, brimming with jars filled with preserved aquatic body parts and specimens. This room now becomes the heart of the home, with glimpses into the collection a constant presence from every space. A partially translucent glass wall (derived from the genetic code of a Harbor Seal) and shelving system protects the collection and divides the owner’s study from the adjacent family room.

This studio apartment is 380 square feet. Basically one room for the living room, dining room and bedroom. It was challenging as walkways needed to be created and the colours within each living area needed to match to obtain a peaceful feeling as you walked into the unit.

Kenneth Philp Landscape Architects
Recognizing the natural constraints on a narrow, wooded site with substantial topographic variation, southern exposure, and small private framed views to Cozy Cove, the architect, landscape architect, and owners collaborated to create a design that focused on the preservation of existing vegetation and the relationship of interior and exterior spaces. This partnership formed the framework for the architecture and garden design to respond to one another.
The owner’s goal for their home was to maintain a strong and vital connection to the site, creating a fusion between home and landscape with a modern edge. The landscape design emphasizes structured and formal solutions in and around the building and its social spaces, while the site’s perimeter is soft and natural. The result of these efforts is a strong and clear connection between architecture and garden, integrating a palette of both modern and natural elements.

Dieppe Design
This three bedroom apartment was in need of a large scale renovation. Set in a small, boutique complex by the water in Sydney's North Shore, the dated residence originally had a layout that was ineffective and did not give the view justice. The brief asked to open the rear of the apartment showcasing the view, add a luxury ensuite to the master and provide a large, functional kitchen.
One of the biggest challenges was adhering to the strict strata regulations and Class Two Building codes requiring fire rated gyprock, conversion of the electrical fittings to be fire rated and raising the floor to case insulation for sound proofing.
Despite the difficulties, Milson Residence presents a contemporary update that accommodates a range of lifestyles. The interior design was thoughtfully considered reflecting the Art Deco heritage of the complex, featuring tall skirtings and herringbone floorboards.
The design worked around existing windows which highlighted the unsightly neighbouring apartment. We were able to utilise one window to our advantage by designing the joinery around the window to provide a window splashback to the kitchen. The kitchen houses a bar / coffee nook and a European laundry, as well as a large pantry. The spacious island bench provides extensive storage and seats four comfortably for entertaining. The finishes & fixtures throughout were specified to the clients brief, illustrating an overall sense of calm and sophistication.
