This year I want to work on improving the side yard and fill in some empty spaces in the back yard, mostly with ground covers. Last year I got some new planters for our renovated back yrd but didn’t love how I planted them. So that’s also on the list!

Within the constraints of a retirement budget, we add at least 1 tree and 1 shrub each year to our nearly 3 acres. Vegetable growing is a challenge due to nearly sterile soil. A few bags of topsoil is all that fits in our budget. adding to 1 slow developing hugulkulture, 2 raised beds and replenishing 1 large lasagna garden fills out the rest of our annual outdoor budget.

The older I get, the less endurance I have, so we live with the weeds. In fact, they are the lawn/ground cover for most of our property. A riding mower keeps them in check.

Last year we did a no-mow May and had a front lawn that seemed like 25% dandelions. I liked it, but some of our neighbors didn't.
