Example of an eclectic bedroom design in New York with blue walls

Harlem ApartmentEclectic Bedroom, New York

The walls and ceiling of the small bedroom were painted a deep peacock blue, which blurs the lines of the space to make it appear larger. To the left, the center piece is a framed hand woven textile and the bottom piece is a framed New Yorker cover from the 1950's. Photo: John Dolan Photography

Hi - It is an eggshell finish, which gives it a slight sheen. It would be amazing in a gloss or lacquer finish. But your walls need to be really perfect for that - the shinier the finish the more it will show any imperfections in the wall texture.

I thought it must be eggshell...won't work for my 101 year old lath & plaster walls.

Hello - They are custom painted 3' wide wallpaper panels. I would suggest www.griffinandwong.com for something similar. I had the wallpaper mounted to lightweight foam board and custom framed behind plexiglass. This way they are relatively lightweight and can be hung with standard picture hooks in drywall. Hope that is helpful! Cheers, Courtney

Hello -can you share the steps to make these gorgeous panels? Did you spray mount the wallpaper? How did you affix the plexiglass to the foam board? I really love this look? Thanks.

Hi - Thanks! It is Farrow & Ball Black Blue in a high gloss finish. This is a lot of work to achieve. We used one coat of primer, and then sanded it smooth. Then, we did three coats of the high gloss finish and gave it a light sanding between each coat. But, the results are well worth the effort. Cheers, Courtney
