This Condo has been in the family since it was first built. And it was in desperate need of being renovated. The kitchen was isolated from the rest of the condo. The laundry space was an old pantry that was converted. We needed to open up the kitchen to living space to make the space feel larger. By changing the entrance to the first guest bedroom and turn in a den with a wonderful walk in owners closet.
Then we removed the old owners closet, adding that space to the guest bath to allow us to make the shower bigger. In addition giving the vanity more space.
The rest of the condo was updated. The master bath again was tight, but by removing walls and changing door swings we were able to make it functional and beautiful all that the same time.

Simple off-white picket tiles dress this kitchen up casually. Tile provided by Carolina Tile & Stone and installed by Thomas Home Improvements.

Being that the undersized master bathroom was adjacent to an underused walk-in closet; a reconfiguration of layout was implemented. Shifting of walls allows the minimized clothing storage to be accessed from inside the bathroom, while a custom pull-out matching the cabinetry offers ample medication storage specific to needs. The decreased mirror size allows spacing for a new casement window to welcome in cross-flow breezes on a warm day.

We choose to highlight this project because even though it is a more traditional design style its light neutral color palette represents the beach lifestyle of the south bay. Our relationship with this family started when they attended one of our complimentary educational seminars to learn more about the design / build approach to remodeling. They had been working with an architect and were having trouble getting their vision to translate to the plans. They were looking to add on to their south Redondo home in a manner that would allow for seamless transition between their indoor and outdoor space. Design / Build ended up to be the perfect solution to their remodeling need.
As the project started coming together and our clients were able to visualize their dream, they trusted us to add the adjacent bathroom remodel as a finishing touch. In keeping with our light and warm palette we selected ocean blue travertine for the floor and installed a complimentary tile wainscot. The tile wainscot is comprised of hand-made ceramic crackle tile accented with Lunada Bay Selenium Silk blend glass mosaic tile. However the piéce de résistance is the frameless shower enclosure with a wave cut top.

Guest bathroom was entirely remodeled. Bath tub was replaced by curbless shower. Lunada Bay glass tile shower niche with 3x6 subway tiles. Hansgrohe faucet

What once was a segmented Jack and Jill bathroom is now comfortable Guest Bathroom with two accesses, sink and walk in shower. The client wanted to maintain the classic Craftsman look so we created a modern version of a classic tile pattern with 9x9" OTM Spanish Hexagon tiles in white, bordered with a 1x4" Pewter Untied Lunada Bay border on the floor and 6x6" Dal matte white tile and 3x6" Dal matte white subway tile in the shower. The 1x4" Pewter Untied Lunada Bay tile is used as an accent band and in the back of the 12x6" recessed niche. White custom cabinets by Stillwater Woodworking are painted in "Frostine" Benjamin Moore, while the walls are Sherwin Williams "Sea Salt. 3cm countertop and 6" backsplash are Pental "Seashell." Plumbing fixtures are all Kohler and vanity lights are Kichler Jervis, mounted on either side of a restored antique mirror. Photography by Marie-Dominique Verdier.

The client derived inspiration for her new shower from a photo featuring a multi-colored tile floor. Using this photo, Gayler Design Build custom-designed a shower pan that incorporated six different colors of 4-inch hexagon tiles by Lunada Bay. These tiles were beautifully combined and laid in a “dark to light” pattern effectively transforming the shower into a work of art. Contributing to the room’s classic and timeless bathroom design was the shower walls that were designed in cotton white 3x6 subway tiles with grey grout. An elongated, oversized shower niche completed the look providing just the right space for necessary soap and shampoo bottles.
