With its cedar shake roof and siding, complemented by Swannanoa stone, this lakeside home conveys the Nantucket style beautifully. The overall home design promises views to be enjoyed inside as well as out with a lovely screened porch with a Chippendale railing. Throughout the home are unique and striking features. Antique doors frame the opening into the living room from the entry. The living room is anchored by an antique mirror integrated into the overmantle of the fireplace. The kitchen is designed for functionality with a 48” Subzero refrigerator and Wolf range. Add in the marble countertops and industrial pendants over the large island and you have a stunning area. Antique lighting and a 19th century armoire are paired with painted paneling to give an edge to the much-loved Nantucket style in the master. Garden Sun Room Aurbach Mansion: This room was restored for a designer show house. We had hand painted murals done for the walls by William "Bill" Riley (rileycreative1@mac.com). They depict walking paths in a wondrous sculpture garden with flowers lining your every step. The champagne metallic molding was added at the top to increase the feeling of intimacy. The Ralph Lauren midnight blue ceiling helped to create a cozy space day or night. There are verde marble floors throughout. The ottoman is Mackenzie Childs. Antique pillows from The Martin Group. This Greenlake area home is the result of an extensive collaboration with the owners to recapture the architectural character of the 1920’s and 30’s era craftsman homes built in the neighborhood. Deep overhangs, notched rafter tails, and timber brackets are among the architectural elements that communicate this goal. Given its modest 2800 sf size, the home sits comfortably on its corner lot and leaves enough room for an ample back patio and yard. An open floor plan on the main level and a centrally located stair maximize space efficiency, something that is key for a construction budget that values intimate detailing and character over size.

One of the most commanding features of this rebuilt WWII era house is a glass curtain wall opening to sweeping views. Exposed structural steel allowed the exterior walls of the residence to be a remarkable 55% glass while exceeding the Washington State Energy Code. A glass skylight and window walls bisect the house to create a stair core that brings natural daylight into the interiors and serves as the spine, and light-filled soul of the house.

Keeping with the coastal feel of the rest of the home, we painted this room a nice wheat color and installed tall, crisp, white wainscoting with a shelf for the homeowners to keep sea shells. Then we took their existing dining table, painted it white, and slipcovered their chairs with white linen fabric. Above the table we hung an antique crystal chandelier and painted the homeowners' sideboard white to complete the look.
