What an interesting headboard. Is there a reading light sandwiched up under that valance area? If not, that would show off your handsome wood paneling at night. I'd encourage you to consider pulling a light tone out of your blues for the wall, and to avoid an overly-matchy wood overload, I'd go with skirted or painted side tables in what looks like your taupe-ish color, perhaps with glass or mirrored tops, as I see you like some shimmer. Better to coordinate than to match, anyway, I think.

Yes, there are four mini puck lights behind the carved panel. The pillows look shinier in the picture but I agree, as much as I love beautiful wood, I won't want it to look like a "near miss". We bought the headboard in 1991 and I still like it but my husband absolutely loves it. The walls are "Useful Gray" from Sherwin Williams to coordinate with our master bathroom of RL Shale Blue. I have also considered two-tone wood (like inlay or marketry but haven't found the perfect piece yet. Thanks for your help!

Perhaps you can consider not matching the night stands.....this look can really be fresh and new! I like the idea from barnhartgallery about incorporating some glass or mirror effects too. Just unify the two pieces in color but keep it interesting by choosing different styles....good luck....really interesting headboard!
