How to make a console table from this marble top.

We are making some changes in our kitchen and would like to use this marble table top in my living room or entry hall up against the wall. I need a base or table legs for it. It now sits on a half round, probably wooden, that is covered in cork. I have looked for legs but haven't seen any that would look good and be strong enough. The marble measures 48" across and 23 3/4" deep. The plywood under it measures 43" across by 21 1/2" deep. I would be very grateful for any suggestions!

The table base should reflect the shape of the top. It should have 4 legs, semicircular skirt boards, and a lower shelf or stretchers. All should be correctly proportioned for the marble top for both aesthetics and structural integrity. If not you will have a white elephant on your hands. If you have a furniture maker build it, let them do the planing, not a mill. The builder needs to determine the blank sizes.

How about no legs? You could mount a couple corbels to the wall with a plywood top and sit the marble on that.

You should have a good idea of the leg structure necessary to support the weight and what looks good by researching similar console tables in Interior design books or in the product section of Houzz. Its then a fairly simple job for a joiner to make a wooden base for the marble top. If you have a good quality hardwood saw mill close by they will often plane up the timber needed and be able to point you in the direction of one of their joinery or furniture maker clients who could assemble the frame for you.

Thank you for the suggestion. The marble is Very Heavy, and corbels would tear out of the wall board unless there was more support (according to DH). Corbels in combination with legs might work if the whole thing looked right.

Poor guy has NO idea which "Portland" you're referring to... lol
Another reason why many of us categorized as "Pro's" wish there was just a hint of the location of the general Houzz public... would make life so much easier. (IMHO)
