Need your opinion! Step up to kids bedrooms?

We are building a new house...We want 12 foot ceilings in our 1st floor great room, so in order to do so we have to step up the 2 kids bedrooms above the great room. There would be 2 steps on the second floor going into their corridor to their rooms. Do you think its okay for the kids rooms to have the step up? Some people tell me that the master bedroom should have the step up.

I am generally not a "step" person with kids, but as long as it fits with your design plan, go for it!

Children do have a tendency to run which there could be some problems with tripping.

I would not worry in the least about the step up. As a kid I would have loved having a bedroom in an area set off a little from the rest of the corridor. It makes the area feel special and a little hidden.

Definitely put steps up to master. Better too since this room is above the great room where household activity will go on long after kid's bedtimes.
