You are facing the same issue everyone has with dark cabinets. However, there are ways to lighten up the space without paint. 1) Add some stainless hardware for bling. 2) Change out the tan tiles for glass subway (but you could keep the smaller mosaic). See how that works for you. A painted finish, done right, is a professional job and not inexpensive, so try to work with what you have first. Also, remove smaller, neutral accessories for brighter, more interesting ones to pop the cabinets. Also, be sure that you have enough light in the space.

I wouldn't paint them. They look fine. Not an easy task and if not done right you will end up with lots of chipping. If you pay a professional to do it I would say go for it. Why not just add some hardware and maybe paint the walls in a light blue?

Do some glass as suggested and change the backsplash.

You've gotten some great suggestions. Sleek, stainless steel or satin nickel hardware and new wall paint would definitely help brighten up the space if you don't want the work of painting the cabinets.

I cannot see the condition of your existing cabinetry but I think the color and door style is right on trend now and your kitchen is very attractive the way it is. I wouldn't suggest painting them as a painted finish requires more upkeep and is more fragile than a stained finish. You might want to wait to make that decision when you tire of the darker color and the trend is lighter cabinetry. I agree with the other comment about adding stainless hardware, it will change the look and give you a contrast that I think you will like.

I like using glass in some cabinets with a light. That would help too. Plexiglass will work. Not as heavy as glass.
