What colour of cabinets?

I am unsure if what colour of kitchen cabinets to install. We just changed our flooring to beautiful walnut hardwood. I want the island to be a dark brown, but feel that this would be overwhelming for the rest of the room. Also I would like something a bit more contemporary. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated since I'm just at a loss!

OK...your wood floor does have some color variation, so maybe getting the cabinets closer to the tone of the floor? Then maybe new hardware?

Gorgeous floors! I love the green undertones of the grey in Jayme Hobbs upper left photo. I think that could complement your floors beautifully.

Jayme, these are the original solid oak cabinets. We were lookin at refacing them..but what colour? Or possibly just getting new hardware. New quartz countertops, backsplash, appliances are next. Oh, and no wallpaper!

Love the hardwood floors. A white or beige cabinets would be a nice contrast for the dark brown island..

Thanks for the kind comments. As for the finish, the island would be a dark walnut colour but I would like to stay with a wood tone for the other cabinets.
