Hi djb -- Without knowing what you have already and what it should coordinate with, I'll just suggest one large thing centered, flanked by one live thing and one or a pair of something interesting/shiny/personal.

How about cutting pieces of board and covering them with a fabric that would fit inside each of the three rectangles. A very muted pattern that would not seem heavy. Then add items to the panels. Perhaps a large piece for the center and then smaller items for the outside panels. Maybe even a candle holder in the outside panels.

Thank you for the suggestion. I don't have anything - nothing - at this point. I'm overwhelmed and went brain dead for decorating. Again, thank you for your suggestion, I will work on it. :-)

It all depends on how much or how little you want to do and/or to spend. And what is the style you like to have.

Having a well designed and nice looking fireplace is very pleasant.
