Linda, I have 36" high-BTU rangetop on island w/ hood mounted 36" above it. I have high CFM 42"W hood from XtremeAir that is very quiet. I shopped hoods for months. Slater Interiors is correct, most hoods are designed to be mounted 30" above cooking surface, so some of ones I liked wouldn't work. I'm 6'3", so 30" would not only have been a head-banger, it would've interfered w/ sight lines too much. Generally the higher the hood, the more CFM is req'd & the wider it needs to be to capture everything. If you're interested in XtremeAir, talk to Ronald. He took good care of me. My contractor said installation was easy.

More. The better hoods have baffles, which last longer than mesh screens, & are dishwasher safe. I think all theirs have baffles. A unique feature is their baffles drain into catch trays. Both are easily removeable & replaceable.
