What color should I paint my living and dining rooms?

The current color is a sage green, but the room is dark and I want to lighten it up as much as possible. I think white may be too stark and am not sure if it should be a creamy off white like Benjamin Moore's Mascarpone or a light beige or sand color or something else. I do not have the red sofa anymore. Instead I have an off white sofa. Please help

Perhaps something like a very light lavender. Something like Benjamin Moore's Whispering wind:
