You're right in thinking that a textured rug would work due to the patterned curtains. Have you considered switching the curtains to a solid and using a patterned rug instead? The curtains don't compliment the ottoman or the blue zig zag throw pillow in the chair. Or, perhaps remove the ottoman and blue zig zag throw pillow?

IMO rugs with beige/taupe/light grays with subtle patterns will tie the furniture and soft furnishings and make a cohesive statement..
