Bookcases in living room or dining room? Or not at all?

Oh my... need help... I've rearranged these rooms so many times I've lost the plot and my cats/children/husband are stressed out...

I've attached a pic of various options... (please forgive the fact that the rooms are yet unpainted and books/shelves not styled)... just trying to pin down what should be where... or not where...

Can't decide if the row of black bookcases should be all together... and if so in the living room or dining room (the rooms are together in an L formation which I hate but nonetheless...)

Or did it look better with the bookcases broken up and here there (and flanking windows)...

Did it look better with furniture against the wall in the living room or are bookshelves better?

Oh heck, comment on anything you like... because I don't know at this point...

Have also been moving furniture around in an L shaped family/dining room. I get it! I like the picture "without big row of bookcases and without rug the best. I think what I like about it is the absent rug in the dining and the clear division of space that the back of the love seat provides. Also like the placement of your mirror in that one. Good luck!

Without the big row of bookcases and without the rug (bottom left photo). Not that I want to add more to your list of choices, but one thing I might consider is changing is the layout of the couches, I like the one couch with the back to the dining room because it divides up the space a bit. It looks like you have a great view out your window which means one couch would be missing that view. Are you able to to move the couch close to the window against a wall?

Thanks to you both. I agree! (And sadly the furniture has been sitting in the less optimal positions since I posted this in April. I've got some furniture moving to do this weekend!)

Eastside Suites Renovations ==> Yes... we can move the that one couch to a wall... ironically that is where it was to begin with! (I moved it because that room is a long bowling alley, and I was trying to break up the length by moving some of the furniture into the middle... but it does indeed block the view, which I don't like).
