this is not a mat. the area is tiled. quite often a tight fitting entrance door doesn't allow any space for area rugs underneath.

there are also handpainted tiles available through ann sacks ( made by kibak, if you want to check out patterns, but they sell through AS exclusively). pricepoint about 40,-/sq.ft., which is of course more than a lot of tiles, but really adequate considering the exclusivety and quality of the product!
