Bathroom, Ottawa

As the main bathroom for the home, this “Jack and Jill” style bathroom served both as a guest bath and the ensuite. The new homeowners decided that some changes were needed– to permanently divide the space into a 3-piece bathroom for their children, and to create a private 3-piece ensuite with closet space and a dressing area for themselves. Furthermore, they wished for the design style to resonate with the rest of the home, ensuring a consistent style throughout. Space for the ensuite was created with the removal of a rarely-used Jacuzzi tub and the inclusion of an existing small walk-in closet. Repurposing these spaces combines to form one large multi-purpose room. The new space now features a corner glass shower and vanity that are seamlessly integrated into a dressing closet with custom millwork. Rather than the traditionally open-access closet, the custom cabinetry provides storage solutions with doors and drawers offering concealment for clothing and accessories. The existing window was a bit of a challenge for the millwork design; however, a smart bench below the window has provided consistency with the built-in while adding further storage space. The renovation transformed one semi-functional space into two separate rooms accommodating the needs of both parents and children.
