Is the tile matte or glossy on this vanity wall? - I am planning to do a vanity wall quite similar to yours. The rest of the tile in my bathroom is matte, except for my accent tile in the shower which has 1/2 glossy, 1/2 matte. The glossy pieces are a mini subway tile in the same color that I plan to put on the wall. I was wondering what you used here and if I should use matte or glossy in my application. I would appreciate your help. Love your work on this whole house! Thanks »
greengirl3 I think I saw somewhere that the shower tile is dichronic grey. Is this wall also dichronic grey? Is the floor accent dichronic grey? I was just wondering if all of the tile colors matched? Thanks.
Can i paint the bottom of each step of my stairs in my foyer a color other than white? - My stairs are the natural color wood on the top of each step, but the bottom of each step is white. »
Shane D. Inman Good Morning and thank you for your question.
What you are asking sounds like a great idea. Although I have never done it professionally, I have seen it done. It can be a touch "whimsical" but if that is your style - it may be a perfect design detail.
Subway Tile Outlet We carry similar colors of subway tile http://www.subwaytileoutlet.com If you need help finding the right color please contact us and we would be happy to help you with your project. Beautiful space!
Lighting Design - I absolutely love this look. The wall sconces are so attractive. Is this a design element, or does it actually provide good lighting for make-up? I have room for only 2 mirrors, no make-up vanity, how many wall sconces should I plan for? Thank you for your kind response. »
Shane D. Inman Good Morning and thank you for your question!
To be totally honest, I am not sure of the diameter of the can lighting above. That was an entity supplied by the contractor. I wish I could be of more assistance.
Shane D. Inman Good Morning and thank you for your questions.
Since the project is several years completed, I am no longer sure what the tile name is and who the actual manufacturer is. However if you Google Tilestone in Traverse City, Michigan and reference this photo - they will be able to assist you since they were the ones that I ordered it from.
I do hope that helps you in your quest.
Have a great day!

Would you recomend 18" or 21" inch depth vanities in 6 foot wide galley master bath. - We are remodeling our master bath and only have 6' between vanity wall and opposite wall (closet). Vanity space is almost 12' wide. We aren't sure whether to use 18" deep vanities with 21" center bump out with tower or 21" vanities with 24" center bump out. most likely will go with wall mounted faucets. Any recommendation? »
Student Compliment of the season. I love your profile and i would love to be your friend and to know you more. I will be grateful to read from you. My email address is (pamelanj85@yahoo.com). Thank you while i await your reply. Cheers.
How high above the sink are the faucets? - Is there a "proper" height to place wall mounted faucets above the sinks, and do they splash more than regular faucets that are placed on the countertop? »
Shane D. Inman Good Morning and thank you for your question.
The faucets are located around 8" above these sinks. When it comes to installing wall-mounted plumbing, the height depends on the projection of the spout and the depth of the sink. Your contractor and/or plumber will be able to advise you according to their expertise.
toilet and shower colors - I am redoing our bathroom now and have an ivory w/ cocoa glaze cabinet like this with black countertop and white undermount sinks. Not sure what color to do the toilet and shower. Would white or a bisque be better? Also, should the light fixtures and faucets all be the same finish? »
Shane D. Inman Good Afternoon and thank you for your questions
I only use stark-white plumbing fixtures (sink bowls and toilet) if I have stark-white cabinets or tile going in. If I do not, then I tone it down a bit with the manufactures off-white version - but not beige/ivory. I don't understand what you are asking when you say "what color to do the shower in?" Do you mean tile or are you doing a per-fabricated shower/tub surround?
I have matched all plumbing fixtures and hardware in the past but I don't any longer. You can do whatever you would like as long it is done with sophistication and style.
Have a great day and thanks again

Could you tell me the depth of the dressing table portion of the counter. I - I am renovating my bath and would like to use the area that now has a sink and vanity as a dressing table. Right now it is 18 " deep and I am wondering if I could make it narrower but still have it function as a dressing table. Thank you »
Shane D. Inman Good Morning and thank you for your questions.
Since the project is several years old - I can only recall by memory for you but I will try my best.
The vanity portion depth was just a couple inches shy of the sink top. I would say that it was 18" deep, which includes the overhang of the countertop. Yes, you could probably do 16" and still have a decent surface to apply make-up and do hair.
Shane D. Inman Good Morning and thank you for your question.
The vanity that you speak of is in many parts - there are tall cabinets, vanities and a make-up station as well as only one wall - so I am a little unsure of your exact question.
The vanities themselves are 36"wide and the make-up station is 36"wide as well.
I hope that answers your question.
Have a great day

Can you share where you got your cabinet hardware? - I am looking for crystal knobs (not glass) and having a hard time finding them. I like that you used handles on the long drawers. An idea for me... Thanks! »

Shane D. Inman Good Morning and thank you for your questions.
I am flattered that you wan to "copy" the bathroom that I designed for my clients. If you would like to see further pictures you will have to find what you are looking for from my official website. If there are no pictures there of what you will need - I unfortunately wouldn't have any others to supply you.
Lights-sconces - Hi, I love the sconces in this bathroom. Can you tell me what brand they are and where they can be purchased. Thank you so much. Love the bathroom. Gorgeous!!! »
Shane D. Inman Good Afternoon and thank you for your question.
The lights that you see here were purchased from a company called Hinkley Lighting. You will be able to find then online by using Goggle. However, this home is many years finished so the sconces may be discontinued.
Have a wonderful night.

Shane D. Inman Good Morning and thank you for your question.
The tiles shown here in this mater bathroom were purchased from a local business In Traverse City Michigan. Since the project is many years old, I cannot tell you the model names or manufacturer but I can give you the phone number to where I purchased them. Please feel free to contact them to ask your question.
Shane D. Inman Good Afternoon and thank you so much for your question.
This vanity that you see here in this picture was custom designed by me for my client. There are several pieces that make up the whole here in this design.
If you would like to obtain something similar this design you can hire an interior designer that specializes in cabinet design or you can go to a cabinet dealer and take advantage of one of their in-house cabinet experts who can put it all together for you.
I do hope this answers your question.
Have a great day

Showplace Wood Products Wouldn't be able to confirm with certainty, but they look very much like the Monroe door style from Showplace with Soft Cream painted finish. Very nice design ...

What is the length of the cabinets/countertop - I'd like to do something similar in my bath, cabinets on top, 2 sinks and a vanity and am wondering how much space I'd need. »
Thank you for your question and I am glad to assist. This is a mirrored custom design with cabinetry molding and fit with mirrors. Please feel free to ask any more questions.
Two questions -
What is the source for the glass knobs and pulls?
What is company for the cabinets?
Such a charming and beautiful look! I feel inspired to use several of your ideas! Thank you! »
Shane D. Inman Good Afternoon! Thank you so much for your questions. I will be more than happy to answer.
Since it has been many number of years since I have designed this house for these homeowners, I do not have that information at my fingertips any longer. However, you can contact these individuals at their places of business who supplied the materials in question.

Shane D. Inman Good Morning and thank you for your question - and a good one.
These free hanging mirrors were mounted by brackets that were drilled into the grout line behind the mirror. The mirrors had hanging wire that allows them to be suspended. Just like you would hang a picture on a wall.
Have a great day.

I love your makeup vanity. How much lower should it be to your vanity sink bases? My vanity sink bases are 27" from the floor (new construction)
Thank you. »
Shane D. Inman Thank you for question(s) - I would be more than happy to answer.
In these modern times, most consumers are choosing to do an "adult height" vanity which is 36" high finished. In this case the make-up vanity would be 30" high, which is table height. If you did a 27" high vanity I would say that your make-up vanity should be the same height. At that height you may not be able to do a drawer underneath.
sniques I am in a new construction home. I wanted my sink bases to be 36" and the vanity to be 30". I just got an email from the builder informing me that the sink bases were in fact only 32" should I still keep only a 2" inch drop or drop it lower? Or should I keep everything the same height at 32"

how is the wood treated for water and humidity resistance - we are a firm in the middle east and bathroom cabinets are not common here. so what do you use to treat the wood to become water and humidity resistant and more durable for bathrooms. »
specific color - Please share the specific color name of the the 'beige' looking tile in the floor. I see it is a combination of white with a 'beige type' color. as an accent. Thanks very much! Your design is lovely! »
Maximize your vanity. If the year ahead holds a bathroom remodel, then be sure to consider your vanity. It’s possible you’ll want it custom made to fit all your needs, such as the addition of a makeup counter in this example.
everything. especially lifted faucet and handles- no mildew/easy cleanup. vanity dip in the center + chair + makeup mirror. colors and detail in general. modern cottage feel.
Here, the beige tile + the mirrors and dual sinks, are lovely. I also like the vanity/seating area. This is VERY much what I am looking to create in our bathroom. The light cabinetry lends a feeling of lightness to an otherwise dark space.
