The interior design components that make this bedroom work so well: custom window treatments, creative wall treatment, and the right bedding combined with a stylish area rug.
I've been asked several times about the paint colors in this room...
I always advise people that they should not start with the paint colors when decorating a room, because it's much more difficult to match other decorating elements to paint colors such as fabrics, artwork and area rugs. Where as paint colors can be matched to anything. The paint colors can also look different in a room depending on lighting, both natural and electric. Photos can be great starting points for deciding the color scheme that appeals to you, however, photographs typically don't depict the actual paint colors. Consequently, it is dangerous to say you want the exact paint colors that you see in a photo. What else are you putting in the room that has green in it? Artwork, area rugs and fabrics are great starting points for matching up paint colors, and you definitely want to have a design plan before you start painting color.
Here's blog post I wrote on how to ease the process of choosing paint colors...

Ragan Corliss Hi Reesibits,

Paint color for my room? - Hi there -- first let me say this room is gorgeous!
The dilemma that I'm having is that I have quite a bit of black and white in my bedroom. Furniture is black, I have a big, beautiful black book case with a couple white accent pieces, curtains are floor length with black and white vertical stripes, I have black, white and gray pillows, big gray high pile rug.... you get it. To add a small pop of color i have one very bright orange decorative pillow and a matching candle in a big clear vase. I love my room but my issue is what color do I paint the walls? I was thinking gray but then I thought it'd be too much with all the gray/black and white that's going on. So what colors would you suggest that would brighten the room up just a bit but not clash.
Thank you for any suggestions »
Ragan Corliss First decide the additional color(s) to add to your color scheme before thinking of paint, then look at room examples to help decide on the paint color. If you add a new color that coordinates with your current color scheme of black, white, gray and bright orange, you have a few options... In looking at a color wheel, you could add color in the similar color family to orange, including red, yellow, and pink. Or you could look at colors that are opposite yet complementary. For orange this would be blues and aqua. Your other option is to stick with the color scheme you have. This is a fun delimma you have and I'll post examples on my blog shortly at: http://www.DevineDecoratingResults.com .
laun2006 Thank you so much for the advice. One more quick question, I'm a very visual person, I have to actually see things in order for me to know If it works or looks good. I can't picture them in my head so maybe you could tell me...... if I just did an accent wall, perhaps in an orange or same color family, and did the other walls in a light gray maybe, does that seem like it could be okay? Or is that completely ridiculous?
Ragan Corliss Hi, are you asking how it was made? When deciding whether to use horizontal lines verse vertical lines, take into consideration that vertical lines will visually extend the height of the ceiling, and horizontal lines will visually extend the length of a wall. In other words, if you paint vertical lines or stripes in a room with a short ceiling, the vertical lines will help make the ceiling look taller. Hope that helps!

I really like the horizontal paint wall design. Is that something that would work well on a smaller bedroom? - Also, how did you accomplish the design, just with painter's tape? »
Ragan Corliss Most likely it will work in smaller rooms, but it also depends on how much solid wall space you have. Feel free to post photos on my Facebook page, and I'll provide suggestions... http://www.Facebook.com/Decorating.Den.Portland .
Paint Colors - Hi Ragan -
I do realize you have been asked this before but I LOVE this room but I can't seem to get the colors right. i am now 8 testers in on the greens and am in desperate need of your advice. Thanks for your consideration! »
lakehsgirl I know you have been asked a million times...but perhaps you could share colors and i can test them in my room...my room is a blank slate, except dark furniture and light rug...
What's the Dimension of The Bedroom - Hi! I was just wondering what the dimensions are for the bedroom. I really love the design and I'm hoping to recreate for my room. »
Ragan Corliss Usually it makes the most sense to look at what you have to work with, ie the dimension of your existing room, the size of your bed, etc. to see if you have enough space to add anything extra such as the chaise lounge shown, or to help determine the size of area rug that will work best. We usually do floor plans for our clients to help plan the space before new new items are purchased. It's definitely better to start with a design plan for the space you want to decorate.

Really like the execution of the wall paint/treatment. Is that all paint or is that wood/treatment used to separate the two colors. Also is this design ran across all the walls in the room or just the "accent wall"? Thanks. »
Hi ragan , i really like the style of this bedroom

I want to do my bedroom in yhis style, but im struggling with window treatments, my windows are rigt beside my bed on both sides and i have 2" wood blinds.im worried if i put curtains on my windows it will look to boxed in. Paint colour of this room? - What is the paint colour of this room? I absolutely love it! Just unsure if I like the darker strip or the lighter colour as it will be one solid colour for the whole room. Thanks! »
This bedroom is pure sophistication. Olive green, charcoal gray, black and taupe all playing nicely. Olive is the accent color as shown in the throw pillows, drapery print and unexpected horizontal band around the room. The icing on the cake is that fabulous zebra rug.
Similar colors are Sherwin Williams - Hearts of Palm 6415 for the band, and Burlap 6137 for the outline.
Consider the color intensity of the patterned fabric. Use similarly strength hues like warm colors together, and bright colors together. A pastel patterned fabric and warm colored patterned fabric may not go well together.
Moss green accents create an organic and serene space. Like blue, green can also help us to wind down and relax, so it makes an excellent color choice for the bedroom.
