Wow! Carerra marble has been a hot topic lately. I love it and I would choose it for my kitchen but maintenance wise it depends on how you live. It would look great contrasting against a dark cabinet color. I would use the carerra on all the counter tops to keep the look consistent since it's such a classic stone. If you decide to use it only on your island and a different counter top on all of the other counter tops, I would look at a simple white quartz surface. Considering carerra has a lot of movement in the veining you wouldn't want to mix it with anything that has movement so the two surfaces fight with each other. I'm not sure what cabinet door style you are going with so the quartz might be too contemporary. For more on the carerra debate check out this great HOUZZ article....

As for the back splash, a nice simple white subway tile would work. For a more contemporary look I have seen great carerra marble mosaics in different shapes and size that would also work.
