One of my first projects creating repeats was designing fabric for a clothing company based out of San Francisco. I was living in New York and then Los Angeles so we would send all sorts of images, swatches, sketches and notes back and forth through mail and email until it was time for us to finally come together. Once me met we’d have an intensive week of dyeing and printing all the fabric they would need to make samples over the next couple months.
The second line we did together we met up at my studio in LA for our week of dyeing and printing. On the first night we started pairing their designs with my patterns and figuring out what would go with what. We had most of the line figured out but we wanted one more pattern for some button down shirts. I sat down that night with a pencil and a credit card to use as a straight edge and started sketching. This drawing came to be somewhere around 3am. I scanned it into the computer and got it cleaned up just in time for the sun to rise. The shirts were beautiful.
All of our wallpapers are printed on clay coated grounds in the United States. Each yard is hand pulled by skilled craftsmen using environmentally sound inks.
