Marie Antoinette, Louis XVI's main squeeze, lent a feminine flavor to the rectangular forms in favor during her time. The Chaise Longue pictured here evokes the Louis XVI style (1774-1793), with its oval back (similar to that of the bergere chair), and straight, tapered legs.
Here is another bedroom with beautiful built-in cabinetry. Incorporating window seats and building in around the windows was a wonderful idea. They have a single armoire to the left and the remaining storage needs are taken care of by the built-ins. So much nicer than extra dressers would have been.
The classic symbol of opulence and high society in 16th century France, while not exactly a bed, the chaise is a classic piece of lounging furniture. While beautiful in any room, an office is a perfect space for a chaise. In between working, working and working, sometimes a person needs a moment just to think!
