A well-placed throw can make all the difference in making your home feel cozy and inviting. Not only is a warm throw a great companion in the winter, but it doubles as a decorative accent. Placing a graphic throw on a neutral sofa does wonders for the energy of a room. A throw can easily be both decorative and functional, but if you like the look of lace against your charcoal-colored chair, know that it probably won’t help you warm up while you’re watching TV. Decide what kind of look you’re going for, as well as what you want to get out of it. If you have kids who love snuggling up with blankets and eating ice cream in front of the TV, choose a washable, cotton-based, or dark colored throw. If you’re looking for something that can be used during any season, stray away from super fluffy fabrics, and opt for cotton blends that are sturdy but light. If you’re looking for something more luxurious, try for a cashmere throw, something with a similar plush feel, or a throw with elegant embroidery. A blanket or throw made with a delicate material might not be the best bet in a room where it will get used consistently.
