Fantastic article! I am not an expert on lighting but I know what I like -- antique lighting! Luckily, I have a friend who used to sell antique lamps, etc and I was able to get most of what I needed from him. My desk lamp is a gorgeous cut crystal and brass beauty, with an elegant shade.

Knowing where and how to use fabulous antique lighting was the best part of the article. And all the gorgeous examples!! Oops, I think I just drooled on my keyboard....

Shanghai Green Antiques
I loved the way Mike Dietrich used the antique Chinese ginger jar; by changing it into a functional lamp. It gives a modern home a nice oriental twist. The Green Antiques Design Team has implemented this type of “east meets west” antique lighting idea into many different home projects. In a beach house project we re-purposed antique Chinese lanterns for use as functional lights over the island bar in the poolside kitchen.

Vero Beach Florida - White Surf Beachside Home

We did something similar in very different style home, where we used antique Chinese lanterns in the downstairs recreation area where we used exterior brick and lanterns in the hallway to create the impression of being outside of a house in a Chinese garden - where you pass through a typical vase shape doorway to enter the home - funky.

i was forced to do mixed chairs but i like the result. i bought 6 brown leather-cushioned chairs with a rounded wooden back and then bought an 8-10 person table. they didn't make my original chairs anymore when i went back to fill out the table.... so i bought 4 grey upholstered chairs with a similar shaped back and then interspersed the two sets of chairs.
