That's good advice from Pinklark and the article. Many of these are low or no cost solutions and that's much better than having to write off thousands of pounds because of dated decor.

I'd also advise checking your door hinges. I looked at about 30 houses and checked most of the cupboards and it is surprising how many were in need of simple repair.

Seller: "Come look at my lovely kitchen!...Er... that cupboard door falling off is a design feature. Honest!"

And please don't leave a house half (or a quarter) decorated just because you've been told that not to bother by the Estate Agent/Realtor. Yes, it is true that people want to put their own touch on a house to make it their dream home, but please provide a blank canvas, not a mess of half stripped wallpaper.

I really should have taken photos of the houses I visited. I could have launched a website equivalent of the houzz evil twin brother, complete with a moustache (or is that hair from the shower?).

Great ideas. I love the tall mirror in the dining room and the starburst mirror looks striking. Mirrors are definitely more than 'just adding light', they are stylish features that can really pull a design together.

Great article Jo, I think all too often people aren't creative enough with mirrors. I love seeing them in outdoor spaces and I have a feature wall in my kitchen filled with contrasting shapes, sizes and styles which makes them look almost like paintings.
