About 12 years ago I designed a house in which we put leather tile floors in the kitchen, much to the surprise of most people involved. All these years later they look great. Leather is resilient, does not conduct hot or cold temperatures, and is extremely forgiving as it is abused. It essentially behaves like saddle leather and simply develops a patina over the years of use.

The color we put down was a very dark, dull olive and while there are definitely a few spots here and there, much like a used saddle, it still looks great. One other benefit of this floor is that almost anything you accidentally drop doesn't break. Many glasses and coffee mugs have survived falls entirely unscathed.

It isn't cheap but lasts a lifetime and looks and feels great. If you can afford it, I would suggest considering it. We used Contemporary Hides 6 x 6 tiles but there are countless other options.

Hi there,
Thank you for your inquiry! I would have loved to photographed the interior of this home. The custom kitchen, family room, mud room, powder room and master suite are all gorgeous; however, this wonderful client is very private and was gracious enough to let us photograph the only exterior.

How high is the height from the bench to the shelf above? Do you recommend a certain height? I am 5'2" but my husband is 6'1". Many thanks for a beautiful design and detailed comments.

Hi there,
Thank you for your inquiry! The height from the bench to the rail above is 4' 1 13/16". I would speak with your designer about the heights recommended for your household as each use is different.
Best of luck!
