This is Oklahoma flagstone - here in CA it's referred to as Cherokee Creek or Three Rivers flagstone, but I've heard other names elsewhere. The joint planting is Dymondia margaretae.

Thank you for responding Margie. The range hood is a standard, made for corners. Rather our crews framed the decorative surround to hold it. The Dacor 6 burner range is 48 inches wide. Here are the specs so you can take a look for yourself: http://www.dacor.com/Our-Products/Ranges/Discovery-48-Inch-Dual-Fuel-Range.aspx.

No one knows - not the homeowner, nor I... trim color was on when clients bought the house. Sorry I couldn't help.

CA Gold mellows with time... I like it better "dirty" or "aged", as in this photo. Look at "bark brown" gravel too. Santa Barbara Stone is my supplier: www.santabarbarastone.com

Thank you for the kudos.

RE: what size stone to use to dissipate the energy of the water moving through your drainage feature/dry stream. You need to use something big enough that it won't wash away. Larger size pebbles and cobbles makes more sense than gravel, given your description.

RE: aesthetics of the dry stream. It has to look naturalistic. Take a moment and look at wild dry streams. You'll notice that they steeply sloping streams are more linear and gently sloping streams are more meandering, that the character of the rock through which they cut gives the character of the stream, that large stones are well buried in sediment, that the stones are fairly well sorted by the movement of the water (fines settled in pools, coarse stones where flow is restricted and the water runs fast).

Finally, it's your local creeks that you want to study and local stone that you want to use for the framework of the stream (the boulders you will lay down first to provide the "bones" of your stream). Layer on cobbles and then smaller material as you go. This smaller material doesn't necessarily have to be local, but make sure all the materials are in the same color palette as the boulders.

Best, Margie
