That's drywall. Most gas fireplace manufacturers allow 'zero clearance' meaning you can have drywall or any non-combustible material placed right up to the frame of the fireplace.

Based on the past litany of comments and descriptions, it is not "modern" but contemporary. I am not making critical comments about its style or design, but the modernists were concerned with things that are not evident in this photo. There is no clear structural order and some might consider the pitched roof and detailing ornamental. There is little to distinguish the parts - roof, walls, floors; punched openings are the only void or window visible in this photo. Lastly, the fact that the stucco on the garage does not turn the corner, but the brick meets it at the corner violates an honesty in tectonic clarity that expresses how the building is made. Again, my comments aren't meant to be mean or critical, but to me this is not a modern house.

Not sure what range hood is that, but definitely an undercabinet hood. Covered by the cabinet, you still have a clean fresh look in your kitchen with a functional rangehood!

You should check out our Arezzo undercabinet hood

We spec'd the 'Faber Incasmart' model which is, at most, 12" depth and therefore aligns with the upper cabinets. The Arezzo above still appears to be deeper than 12" - 18".

In my opinion, this is such a silly rule and should NOT apply to a private home. I've seen public spaces that use this design yet it is allowed.

Everyone seems to have a different technique but you can apply a panel that can be simply removed post inspection.

Tough to answer your question without knowing more about what your concern is. Quality is a very subjective thing.

'Polished' tile is what i would suggest to achieve the look of the flooring shown in this image. Also consider using a very thin grout - refer to this system http://www.tuscanleveling.com/

thank you for your consideration. I'm concerned about fiberboard/particleboard kitchen cabinets. How long do these hold up in an average use kitchen. For flooring, I want large format 24x24 tile, but my floor joists are 2x8, 16 inches on center with about 12 foot spans
and I'm told they cannot handle the weight of ceramic. So I am looking at this markland flooring, but does it hold up well or will I need to change it out within 10 years?
