Toni Sabatino

I am an interior designer specializing in kitchens, bathrooms, home libraries, offices, wine storage, custom closets and any room featuring built in furniture and millwork that requires particular attention to use and spatial planning and a proud recipient of a Best Of Houzz 2013 Award for customer satisfaction in the Remodeling catagory.
I like to think of decorating as creating an outfit for a room. Of course, it does have to be an outfit you will not mind wearing for a good, long while. Seriously, though, the care one takes to coordinate an outfit is quite similar to room decorating. Just because you “like it” doesn’t means it works! Too many accessories, more than one large bold pattern and colors that are not complimentary will take down even the best of the individual items being used. Cohesive design where each item has not only a purpose but is in proper scale and has a good relationship with the other items in the room, will make a room inviting no matter what the style. The selection of flooring, cabinetry, counters, backsplash, and wall color can really be done in any order as long as each element builds upon the last. Take into account colors and themes from adjoining rooms as well. This will help to create a flow in the home that really shows off a sense of style. Kitchens require special attention as plumbing and electric codes as well as appliance clearances all have to be taken into account while creating a visually pleasing, functional space. It is my opinion that a good ” kitchen designer” will guide you to find your style and showcase your unique treasures while creating that cohesion that makes a room really special.

jasonandtricia Where could I find that beach shade?
calkelley best beach thingy ever - google sand anchor. It's a thing that screws into the sand and it has a tabletop which is something we use all the time! You can keep your drinks, glasses, books, etc out of the sand. It's also an umbrella stand.

Billy Goodnick Pasadena Memories: I'm a big fan of using my camera in video mode, especially for initial site analysis for a new client's property. It allows me to capture not only the image but my thoughts at the time. Of course, I don't hold it right in front of my face -- safety first. Never know when there's a python hanging from a tree or a tiger pit in the middle of the path . Thanks for adding this very useful design tool.

stylingirl Another shout-out for the Moonflower. It's a morning glory type flower that only blooms at night and smells AMAZING! Do plant some!

Kim Gamel I do love moon flower and actually have one on my trellis now. I didn't include it mainly because some people consider it a nuisance because of its self-seeding habits. But if you enjoy it, by all means include it!

susannaschindler A hint for storing Legos: if you store them in a big sheet in a nice container, then cleaning up just involves just picking up the sheet. If e sheet is big enough all the Legos stay on it when the child is playing.

Toni Sabatino This is a great article... @typing monkey ... i have found that Brown Thumb can be cured with a little patience, some perseverance, a watering can and a little sunshine!!!

newcs 3 things I've had good luck with (and I usually kill all houseplants): Aloe, spider plants and my new favorite are the mini orchids from Just Add Ice. I don't use ice since it damaged a leaf but this little plant from the grocery store has been going strong and blooming for a couple months now, even though I went away for 2 weeks. I just water it a little bit each weekend and don't do anything else.
nagoose The only plants I haven't killed are the plastic ones. The live ones that are still alive don't look nearly as good as the fakes, either looking sickly or near death. And I only get the "unkillable" ones!

I keep trying even after saying in despair to my husband as I recycle yet another plant I am just going to replace each one as they die with plastic ones. I definitely love plants to death. They don't last too long with me. Sigh.
