Art Fireplace Technology Limited
Among the bestin art fireplace design, the AF120 Remote Controlled Electronic Bio Ethanol Fireplace Insert is favored by architects, contractors and high-end designers and offers the discerning client unprecedented quality and safety. In addition to the same vent-free and clean burning flames as manual ethanol fireplace inserts, this art-Fire bio ethanol burner offers much more for both residential and commercial applications:
Remote Control Capability. Due to its electronic operation, powered by a twelve-volt power source, this ethanol fireplace insert may be ignited and extinguished through an on/off switch located on the burner itself, a one-button remote control or through your smart phone by integrating with your Smart Home System.
On-Board Safety Monitoring. The motherboard of this fireplace insert is safety-central. Constantly self-evaluating its operation, this intelligent burner reacts to any condition that appears atypical. Should it sense an excess amount of carbon dioxide emission or heat output, it will automatically cease operation, extinguish the flame and maintain the lock mechanism of the fuel chamber. Additionally, it will self-extinguish should it sense seismic motion or level of tilt making it a shock-proof device. Fuel and battery levels are also constantly evaluated for optimal performance and will give notification through the burner’s LED display, which will indicate operation times and alert you by sound and error message should an event occur.
Sturdy Construction. Constructed of Grade 304 stainless steel, the ethanol burner is corrosion resistant and exhibits excellent resistance to atmospheric, chemical and other exposures. Its top plate measures three millimeters in thickness(3/32 inches). This allows sturdiness, yet promotes a low profile. For added safety, the ethanol fireplace AF120 insert offers insulated double hearth construction.
Separate Fuel Reservoir and Burner Tray. Continuing with the unprecedented safety features of this ethanol burner, excess fuel is housed in a sealed reservoir. This not only prevents fuel evaporation and the aromatic release of the raw ethanol, but lessens the amount of “exposed” fuel at any given time. Through a medical grade fuel pump, the ethanol is delivered into the burner tray. Only allowing the burner tray to manage a few centiliters of ethanol fuel at a given time promotes additional safety and minimizes the risk of fire-related dangers.

All windows were re-positioned strategically to take full advantage of the view, for example, the living room new windows were positioned to take full advantage of the beautiful views of the property. The linear layout of the new windows in the living room was designed to frame and echo the panoramic view of the beautiful pond, farm fields, tree lines and the Adirondack mountains seen beyond As part of architectural and interiors design, here Mitra paid careful attention to use green building products as much as possible, which was done by selecting and using environmentally friendly and low VOC emission products, as well as sing salvaged products where possible, and using as much local products as possible.
Aside from using green building products as much as possible, another very important goal of this project was to dramatically improve and maximize the energy efficiency of this home. To meet the specific and mechanical needs, a team of independent expert energy efficient consultants was assembled at the early phase of the design, so that energy solutions were studied and evaluated to the fullest. After extensive energy audits and study of the existing conditions and after extensive evaluation and brainstorming between all parties, Mitra compiled all the information and findings and incorporated them in her design solutions. In short, during construction, extensive energy upgrading measures were achieved by constructing a tight insulating envelope on the interior sides of all exterior walls and roofs, installing the most efficient heating and cooling system along with the introduction of a geothermal system installation. All windows and doors were replaced by state of the art and modern design energy efficient product available in the market which also visually modernized the design and maximized the beautiful westerly view of the landscape outside. To further address the energy efficiency of this project Mitra designed a concrete and steel and concrete fireplace box for it so that it can act as a chase for the mechanical needs of this new super energy efficient fireplace unit. - Photo credit: Susan Teare

Our company is unique in that we actually design and build cabinets and theater interiors in-house. We do not subcontract these services out to others. We take a highly creative approach when designing custom cabinetry. We are extremely sensitive to the leading role that media and entertainment centers play in today’s interior design.
Every facet of each cabinet is evaluated for function and appearance. First, we look at how the furniture will blend with the existing environment. We build any style of furniture from traditional to contemporary and in all cases strive for harmony in the design. Secondly, we evaluate how the client will use the cabinetry, such as, where is the best TV viewing angle, component accessibility and how the size, shape and location will affect other elements in the room.
In addition to the artistic beauty of our cabinetry, good design is the key element to well built, long-lasting and user-friendly furniture crafted specifically for each customer’s lifestyle. We only use premium-grade veneered plywoods and hardwood, and premium quality hardware.

This roof was 10 yrs old with new plywood at the time of original install. The contractor at that time did not take the time to evaluate why the plywood was such bad shape and installed new plywood into the same condition that deteriorated the original plywood.
During our initial evaluation we discovered the shingles were in great shape, but there was a lack of proper ventilation and not enough insulation in the attic. With this combination, there was a consistent presence of moisture due to condensation. Year after year this condensation destroys the glue of the plywood and the shingles and plywood can sag between the roof rafters. With the added weight of the moisture and 2-1/2' of snow, the roof rafters cracked. Increase cost of fuel needed to heat the home and the additional electrical usage to cool the home has now been reduced. Throw in the GAF Golden Pledge Warranty and they now have to best performing and protected roof for years to come.

Shearer Painting
In March 2013 my painting company was asked to install a technically challenging high gloss finish on a rail cap/spindle build as part of a one of a kind custom staircase inspired by a historic staircase at the Compagnon Artisan School in France. The staircase was design and installed by our colleagues at Seattle Stair & Design. The owner and design team wanted the highest gloss finish in black for the handrails with a custom tinted off-white in high gloss to compliment the black cap and adjacent natural wood tones.
Shearer Painting was asked to create full paint finish mockups for Owner and Design Team evaluation. The level of gloss was one of several considerations (durabilty, reflective luminescence, etc). Full scale color substrate mock up installs are time consuming and costly; on this project the sheer scale and cost of the project warranted that no option be left unexplored. The staircase is the center piece to a Seattle water front residence with 180 degree water reflectance into the home (lots of natural light!!).
Sherwin Williams oil enamels in Black and white vs. Fine Paints of Europe Hollandlac Brilliant in Black and White.
Videos and pictures are inadequate to reproduce the gloss difference. The entire design team and the owner all agreed the Fine Paints was a significantly higher gloss. This has repeatedly been my professional experience with architectural finishes (also the opinion of many painting contractors).
There are specialty/exotic coatings particularly designed for automotive finishes (we have used them) but the performance on non metal substrates is less than desirable as surfaces expand and contract at different rates; and impossible to cost effectively touchup when maintenance is needed. There are painting contractors and cabinet finishers that advocate automotive finishes; in my opinion they look great at install but are regrettable if the surfaces are in high traffic areas (like stairwells and kitchens).
Shearer Painting had a long run of achieving high gloss finishes in the late 1990′s with oil base enamels followed up with micro abrasives (such as rotten stone). Almost all the high quality alkyd enamel paints available before 1997 are greatly diminished in terms of hardness and color retention (although the product names remain the same). We have almost completely abandoned this technique except for a handful of owners and designers who insist on it.
Waterbased enamels are greatly improved since the ban of oil based paints in states such as California.

The homeowner, Pam , hired Melissa Main, a Feng Shui consultant to evaluate her home. Much of the design was driven by Melissa’s evaluation and principles of Feng Shui. Between the kitchen and breakfast nook, there are three Feng Shui zones. The cook top run is where abundance and prosperity is activated. The recommendation was to have Metal, Earth and Wood elements. The copper hood satisfied the metal. For the earth element, we used the stone counter top, and for the wood component we chose solid wood cabinets as well as the existing oak floor. The sink run activates fame and recognition and is activated by Fire. It was recommended to have fire elements that included the color red, candles and light. We choose Cherry cabinets in its natural red finish and the red tones of the marble counter tops to satisfy this recommendation. We planned on having a few candles sit on the counter top as a decorative and functional element of fire as well. The breakfast nook and part of the island activates marriage and partnership, which is represented by the Circle shape and Metals. We incorporated this by the curve of the island as well as the metal in the overhead light. We also choose the curved side panels to further integrate the flow of energy throughout the space.
There are usually two cooks in the kitchen at a time so the prep sink was added in the island. The electric cook top was traded for a more efficient gas cook top set along the wall so that we could create a beautiful focal point for the kitchen with the use of the copper hood and of the hand crafted tile. The existing desk was stained to match the color of the cherry cabinets. The existing floor was patched and re-stained to blend better with the new cabinets.

Home Improvements
Embarking on a bathroom remodeling project is an exciting endeavor that can greatly enhance the functionality, aesthetics, and value of your home. However, finding a reliable and skilled contractor in a bustling city like Los Angeles can be a daunting task. To simplify the process and ensure a successful bathroom renovation, we have compiled a comprehensive guide on how to find a reputable bathroom remodeling contractor in Los Angeles, California.
Start with Online Research:
The first step in your quest for a reliable contractor is to conduct thorough online research. Utilize search engines like Google to find bathroom remodeling contractors in Los Angeles. Be sure to include specific keywords such as "bathroom remodeling," "contractor," and "Los Angeles" to refine your search results.
Check Online Directories and Review Platforms:
Explore online directories and review platforms like Yelp, Angie's List, and Houzz to find a curated list of bathroom remodeling contractors in Los Angeles. These platforms often provide detailed information about contractors, including customer reviews, ratings, project photos, and contact details. Assess the overall rating and read through multiple reviews to gauge the contractor's reputation and reliability.
Seek Recommendations:
Ask friends, family, neighbors, and colleagues who have recently undergone a bathroom remodeling project in Los Angeles for recommendations. Personal referrals can provide valuable insights and firsthand experiences that online research may not uncover. Inquire about the contractor's professionalism, craftsmanship, adherence to timelines, and overall satisfaction with the project.
Verify Credentials and Licensing:
Once you have shortlisted potential contractors, it is crucial to verify their credentials and licensing. Check if they are licensed by the Contractors State License Board (CSLB) in California. A valid license ensures that the contractor meets the state's requirements and regulations. Additionally, inquire about their insurance coverage to protect against any potential liabilities during the remodeling process.
Evaluate Experience and Expertise:
Assess the experience and expertise of the contractors on your list. Look for contractors who specialize in bathroom remodeling and have a proven track record of successful projects. Review their portfolios or ask for references to see examples of their previous work. A skilled contractor should be able to handle a variety of bathroom designs and styles, and provide creative solutions to meet your specific needs.
Schedule In-Person Consultations:
Arrange in-person consultations with the shortlisted contractors. Use this opportunity to discuss your remodeling goals, budget, timeline, and any specific requirements you may have. A reputable contractor will listen attentively, provide insights, and offer suggestions based on their expertise. Pay attention to their communication style, professionalism, and responsiveness, as these qualities are crucial for a smooth working relationship.
Request Detailed Quotes and Contracts:
Ask the contractors for detailed written quotes that outline the project's scope, materials, labor costs, and any additional expenses. A comprehensive quote will help you compare the estimates provided by different contractors effectively. Once you have selected a contractor, ensure that you have a detailed contract in place that covers all aspects of the project, including timelines, payment schedules, warranties, and dispute resolution processes.
Seek Permits and Building Code Compliance:
Bathroom remodeling projects often require permits and adherence to building codes. A reputable contractor will be familiar with the local building regulations in Los Angeles and should handle the permit application process on your behalf. Verify that the contractor will obtain the necessary permits and ensure that all work is compliant with local codes and regulations.
Conclusion:
Finding a bathroom remodeling contractor in Los Angeles, California, may seem overwhelming, but by following these guidelines, you can streamline the process and select a contractor who meets your expectations. Conduct thorough online research, seek recommendations, verify credentials, evaluate experience, and schedule in-person consultations to make an informed decision.
