There really is no best color. It all depends on your location, your lighting and your preferences. There are warm whites and cool whites. Go to any paint store and take some of their brochures that show various whites. Then start experimenting in your space.

Anne, thanks for answering my question about Fauteuils? Also, I love whites, several of my rooms are painted Dover White and it is interesting to watch the subtle color changes throughout the day and evening.
