Need outside paint colors and landscaping help

Just moved into this house and need to redo the house front and landscape. We're going to remove the arches and get rid of the spanish theme including removing the wrought iron under the window. Unfortunately the orange roof is staying temporarily until it's worn out and we can get a black roof. Any ideas for paint colors and landscaping?

Could become quite a good-looking contemporary if the arches and grills in front of the windows were removed in favor of a pergola and fixed contemporary windows. Take out the clumpy shrubs on the left first. I could even see a bit of this one in your place.

If you want to get rid of the spanish theme - I would also recommend changing from the dark red to either black or cream. Even though it won't be for a while, keep in mind what the house will look like with the black roof and plan the other things accordingly. You could get cedar roofing. Vancouver has been having a lot of those recently and they definitely make a welcoming and yet modern statement: www.chisholmroofing.ca.

Square up the arch. Remove the Ys from the small posts and build them up to be more substantial . Remove all window board things and wrought iron fence things. Paint posts, square entry, bricks inside entry a shiny light grey and front door the foundation color. Paint foundation, steps and inside window edges a very dark greeny browny grey. Have square planting beds that extend pass both ends of the house after you pull out the hedges..

If you keep the brick, for now with the earthy roof - you want a khaki brown green - like bm wethersfield moss for all the large posts and trim. If you are willing to paint the brick / stain it / look at the complimentary bm white rock.

I like this palette with the roof both ways - first option more traditional, second more modern as the lines of your windows suggest. Another reason to paint brick is to eliminate siding contrast. An entry pergola in mossy green already feels organic / timeless - choose your pergola details with an eye to classic details / rafter tails - echo or remove the ranch wood braces by your existing posts. You could go very modern with a 2x2 spaced tightly.

Another thing you might do if you want a modern look is paint out the aluminum frames in orb spray paint before you paint the brick./ lots of masking but that extra contrast would add a lot of character. One advantage of the white brick exterior is that if/when you change out windows - you could go for casements in vinyl and it would work well. That modern version would be amazing with a front door in a brown purple hue like bm vintage wine. If you keep the brick, a deeper front door like bm dark olive and get a small brush to do the old aluminum in front / by the back patio. It gives an instant expensive feel to have a three tone scheme w/ tonal nature hues.
