How should the furniture be placed in my family room?

This is our new family room. Roughly we are working with this furniture (although can certainly add accents/tables/plants/etc) and I can't figure out how to do it! We have a couch, two large chairs, a coffee table, and a TV on a stand. I don't want to block the lovely windows and I want most people to be able to see the TV as this is the only TV in our house. I also like there to be a conversation space. This room is open to the kitchen, which complicates things. Help!

Try putting the sofa where the chairs are, but have it away from the windows about 12". Then put the tv center on the opposite wall and then one chair where the sofa is, and the other to the left of the FP. The coffee table in front of the sofa with the front legs of the sofa on the rug. Congrats on your new abode!

BTW...which do you love more? The curtains or the rug? One of them needs to be replaced as they are not getting along.

I agree with Darzy. The tv should be against the wall as opposed to cornered and the chairs could be switched with the couch. You may also consider a larger entertainment system/tv stand. Love the fireplace :)

Thanks! How far can the couch be from the TV? The TV is just a 40" (I don't want a bigger tv!) and the room is 20 feet long. I was worried this wouldn't be great for couch views of the TV. I appreciate the feedback.
