Master Bedroom Ideas
Play and display. This headboard unit works all sorts of wonders, providing enough space for a lot of clothes storage around its edges. I also like the way it creates a tidy recess for matching built-in bedside tables — sizable ones to boot. The really good-looking part, though, is the shelves inside the recess, which provide heaps of room for a movable art display or collection of treasured photographs. And making the wood dark and moody lets the lamplight create a supercozy, soporific glow.
Designer Philip Silver uses an Eastern philosophy in his interior designs; no major piece of furniture sits against a wall. Instead the bed's plush headboard and a silver screen form a passageway from the spacious bedroom into the adjacent master bath. Holland & Sherry fabrics and plush Michaelian & Kohlberg rugs make for a soft and sumptuous sleeping space. Bed linens: Frette; side tables: Gary Hutton; blinds: Hartmann & Forbes; glass lamps: Jan Showers; mirror screen: Niermann Weeks; bed suite: Ted Boerner
Open marble shelving to store towels at the end of this tub inspired new storage solutions in Houzzers' bathrooms.
Dividing lines. Strong directional lines are a key characteristic of this Asian bathroom and the design aesthetic in general. Note how the long, horizontal wall tiles make the room feel peaceful and balanced, while the large, vertically laid floor tiles add depth and anchor the room. The angled ceiling design also draws the eye up and gives the illusion of height. Minimalist bathroom furniture enhances the sleek, clean look of the bathing zone, too.
Back to basics. This Asian bathroom has a rustic look, thanks to the use of raw natural materials and decor, rather than sleek, high-shine surfaces and furnishings. The light, creamy walls and indulgent touches, such as the candles and plush white towels, break up the muted palette and add a hint of luxe modern appeal. My favorite part of the design? The bath spout, which echoes a Japanese bamboo water feature.
Like the gray accent wall.
Shades of gray. This headboard’s upholstery takes a much more clean-lined approach. The floor-to-ceiling headboard has a combination of soothing grays and a wood frame. Mirrors on either side reflect the fire and lamplight to fuel romance.
