Leslee Baggette It might be several coats of Dark Walnut or Jacobean by minwax. Im trying to decide between Jacobean, Ebony or Dark Walnut at the moment. Ahhh... decisions! The below is one coat.

JWinteriors This is a coffered ceiling vs a tray ceiling. A carpenter would "beam" out squares using 2x6's. He would then overlay this with 1 x 6 pine. A crown moulding would then be applied to the inside of all boxes. Everything gets primed and painted. You must have at least 9 foot ceilings for this to work as you will be coming down 6 inches. JWinteriors Jane is right. Any colour that has a yellow undertone will reflect more light. This colour could be green, which would have more yellow added than blue, etc. Any room that has white woodwork, allows the wall colour to be deeper. So don't be afraid to go a little darker for the contrast.

Eutree Wide Plank Flooring Robin, typically hand scraped floors will be engineered. Some installers do however actually come to the job site and hand scrape the whole thing but that is unusual and extremely expensive.
