DIY front landscaping with pondless waterfall. A mixture of perennial and annual flowers keep the flowerbed looking lush all summer and is an inexpensive way to add curb appeal (tip: install a drip line for the hanging baskets - much easier than hand watering!) The black adironack style front porch swing that we built serves as the perfect place to sip lemonade and enjoy the blooms!
Walkway - Hi..I live in upstate NY and need a new walking path.We currently have bluestone but it's too narrow and boring! I call it the death march. I got a price of $10k just for the path no plants, etc. Does that seem correct? My husband can pretty much do anything but I would like help deciding on a design, pattern etc. I have a few pictures posted that you could see of outside of house and what I am talking about. We are currently adding a portico with an Ipe deck. Would love any insight you could provide! Thanks sooo much. »
New Seabury Thank you so much for your reply! If you look at my photos you will see a portico we are adding and Ipe deck. In those shots you can see the existing sidewalk. It is a long path because it goes from driveway to front door and the house kind of curves on the site. $10,000 is a lot to me for that. My husband and I are big DIYers, on our third house. He is one of those guys that can pretty much do anything and used to build houses many years ago. I think we could do project just wished I had a person who knows more than me to develop plan with. I seem to have only talked to people locally around me and they don't see too creative or really show any interest.
We have been working on this house 9 long years. On the outside of house we have Added pergola in back and small one above a garage side door, built a cupola with lighted lantern, replaced garage door and put in a lot of landscaping. I wish you lived near me!! Inside of house we have been redoing every room. Gutted kitchen, mudroom, etc.
Josh and Malissa McCulloch My husband and I built it. We found the plans online but it was a few years ago so I'm not sure of the source. Thanks for your question!

rmsteinmetz the white looks like alyssum. in some areas it is an annual and you would plant it each year.the pink looks like creeping phlox which is a perennial also comes in purple
Josh and Malissa McCulloch The large pink flowers are part of a ground cover called an "ice plant" - its hard to tell from the picture, but they're gorgeous! They close up at night and open during the day. The color stays all season which is wonderful. Honestly, I am not sure what the other ground covers are - we ended up taking them out last summer because they were choking out the ice plant. But we already miss the mixture of color they bring so I think we're doing to add some dividers and replant.
Josh and Malissa McCulloch Kac1 is right - they are daylilies. We love them b/c they bloom from late spring through summer and are easy to grow. We have another variety (can't remember the name) that are a deep red color but they only bloom once mid-summer. Thanks for your question!

WATERFALL - I KNOW THE WATER GOES TO A RESERVOIR UNDERNEATH, BUT WHAT SEPARATES THE END OF THE WATERFALL AND THE DIRT IN FRONT? IT IS TRULY BEAUTIFUL. »
8. Flower power. Flowers are one of the least expensive ways to make the front of your house blossom with curb appeal. For those with a green thumb, sprucing up your home will never be so fun.
