How does the stairway meet the second floor hallway? - This is beautiful and exactly what we are planning to do, including the contrast between the light wood floor on the first floor and the darker color wood (chocolate brown) on the stairs. But we are really struggling to figure out what to do on the second floor hallway where it meets the stairs. Did you use hardwood on the second floor hallway? If so, did it match the ligher or darker color. If you used carpet, what color did you use (a brand, style and color recommend would be greatly appreciated)? Thanks and great work! »
Michael Robert Construction Product information can be seen in the answers to the other questions on this picture. This actual runner was purchased at Paragon Mills here in NJ.
Michael Robert Construction The one in the background? It was from Macy's. not sure if its still available but I believe the Baldwin sofa by Arhaus (www.arhaus.com) is the same model. It's a slip covered sofa and we love it!

Michael Robert Construction, can you please give me the exact name of the paint and the gel stain ( ebony?) - Thank you. I will figure out the ratio measuring. It's exactly what I am looking for. I'm currently working on a 1922 colonial revival - craftsman home. »
Gerri Mooney oh ok I misunderstood when you replied to the other person who asked if it was a paint or stain on the newel and hand rail , you said it was a mixture of paint and stain.......lol sorry, you were meaning the handrail & treads were stain and the trim was paint.
Michael Robert Construction This is true also, but I was actually referring to is what "gel stain" is. Gel stain is a mix of paint and stain- the coverage of a paint, but the consistency of a stain. Sorry for the confusion!

7. Experiment in the stairwell. The poor, neglected stairwell is a great place to play with new decorating ideas. Try papering the wall (with either a print or something textured, like grass cloth), adding cool geometric carpeting or painting the risers in shades of one hue.
