This dining room was the original home's living room. Notice the fire place? It's original - a new coat of paint has it looking brand new. It is one of the only rooms left from the original structure. The homeowners have their extended families nearby and often host large, informal dinners. They felt the large room was much better suited as their dining room, and opted to turn the original smaller dining room into a formal living room.
The wainscoting on the walls and coffered ceilings are new, but constructed to look original. The salvaged wood farmhouse table is the perfect gathering spot for their family and a nice contrast to the more formal touches like the silk window treatments and subdued color palette.

Arm chairs - Hi! I know you have said a few times that the chairs are from ikea...do you happen to know the name of the arm chairs? I can only find the chairs without the arms...thanks so much for your time!!! »
Michael Robert Construction I see what you mean because I'm looking online and not seeing them anymore either! I believe they are the Henriksdal also, but with arms. Perhaps they have discontinued them? It's definitely worth calling either the catalogue or your local store to find out if they have them or if they have any info on them. Ikea also has a "scratch and dent" section- these chairs are often used as displays and can be found there. Since they are slip covered, it's really not a big deal if the underneath is used! Just a thought. Good luck! Sorry I didn't have better news. Ellie
Michael Robert Construction It was a very good, well-educated guess! The magic of photography often skews the way a room's dimensions look. Thank you for your kind words! -Ellie (Mike's wife, the designer!)
Interiors International, Inc. You are very talented and it is my pleasure to compliment a fellow designer on their work. It is greatly deserved. I am now following you and look forward to seeing more of your designs.
Michael Robert Construction Sorry for the delayed response! The room is approx. 14' x 22'. Vita5656, I'd say keep the bigger master bath and closet, and sacrifice the ceiling! 9' feels tall, and I wouldn't give up the luxury of a bigger bath or closet for ceiling - ever! Those shoes need room to breathe! Have you made a decision already?
MamaKatz, I love Arhaus! The dining room light definitely has a presence in our 14' wide room. It may be a little overwhelming in a 12' room. It also depends on how wide your table is. I'd recommend comparing the diameter measurement of the light with the width of the table. I'd say the diameter of the light shouldn't exceed the width of the table. If it is close and you're still not sure, create a template of the light out of cardboard and hold it above the table! It's a great way to get a gist of how big it will feel in the room.
Good luck, guys! And be sure to let me know how it all works out!
Michael Robert Construction thanks! we painted them the same as the trim - Farrow and Ball's Charleston Gray. They are bonded grills, so it wasn't a problem.

Ellie and Michael decided to use a lower-grade oak flooring for more variation, warmth and depth. In the formal dining room (originally the home's living room), they installed a light fixture and trestle table and added wainscotting and coffering on the ceiling and walls.
