These built-in bookcases help provide much needed storage in a small home while helping to bounce light into the room from the windows. At night the books are illuminated by the monopoint track fixtures. Renovation/Addition. Rob Karosis Photography
Original house - If you can, please, tell me the original size of the house? And the size it is now? And, also, where were the additions made?
Thank you, very much. »
Smith & Vansant Architects PC Hello,
The original house square footage was 1,476 (738 sf on two floors). The new house is 2,135sf. From the vantage point of this picture, the room you are in is part of the original cape, and the porch posts out the left window are part of the porch connected to the original ell. North of the ell we took down a rotting garage and replaced it with a new garage (250sf not included above) with a studio above (included above) and mudroom, office, powder room and back porch below.
Hope that helps!
Smith & Vansant Architects PC Hello,
This is an antique table which the client owned. You could probably have one made, but it will be difficult to find.
Hope that helps!
The front door opens directly into the living room, which is the main form of the house."The whole house is a library," Smith says. "Our client is extremely organized, with each room containing different genres of books. She has just as many design books as we have in our office."
There's no need to hide your paperbacks. Note how this homeowner pulled them to the front of one of the shelves and stacked them horizontally.Don't forget to dust. At least once a month I give the tops and edges of the shelves and books a quick going-over with a feather duster, and the difference in the room can be felt.See more about paperbacks as accessories
Very nice built in bookcases enclosing the window and door into the design. Who said you can't have this done in a small space? It gives a lot of architectural interest to the space. Not to mention the windows going all the way up to the ceiling.
