AMS Landscape Design Studios, Inc. Typically Irish Moss works best in partial sun to even mostly shade and love a fairly moist environment. Therefore, in Southern California (where this project is located) the location of where to plant Irish Moss should be considered carefully.
In S. Cal, pick a semi shady area, ensure good drainage, plant as tight as desired (it's not a fairly fast spreader), and mix with yournchoice of plants along the edges..

Re: Irish Moss'
To be successful, plant in a fairly cool / shady environment and make sure the soil is loose & well draining. In addition, make sure your irrigation is zoned specifically for the area's needs.
AMS Landscape Design Studios, Inc. This is a simple small step pad access to a hidden pool equipment area.
Irish Moss surrounds the limestone pads, small and medium Geraniums provide some alteration in leaf color, with the 'Heartleaf Geranium' being the purple flowering species (grows 3'-6') and there are also Lavender Dentata at the front right. In back right is a larger Camellia species and spreading vine (powder puff ... if I remember... project was installed a while ago). All could work in Northern California.

When researching groundcovers, make sure you know which USDA Plant Hardiness Zone you're in, or go to your local nursery and ask them about the best options for your area. Consider what part of your yard your pavers will be in. Will they be in shade or sun most of the time?
The Irish moss surrounding these pavers works well in this shady side garden.
Even if you just added a stone pathway to your backyard, you want the steps to feel like they've been there a long time. Patches of moss peeking through the stones is an easy way to create that lived-in look.
