Anne DeCocco Those are woven wood shades. Might be called bamboo. I love how they let the light in. But at night, when the interior lights are on, they provide little to no privacy. I also love those chiars. Molded plywood is my guess. Beautiful room!

A ceiling fixture is also a great way to achieve a unique look. Use repetitive fixtures over a dining table at alternating heights.
Tip: When hanging multiple fixtures over a dining table, there are a few guidelines to help you plan their placement. The fixtures at their widest point should hang about 12 inches inside the edge of the dining table and they should be about 6 feet above the floor. This will help prevent diners from hitting their heads.

This space could easily have become weighed down and unbearably heavy. The deep, dark tones of the wood are heavy, the deep tone on the wall is heavy, and everything has some weight to it. This weight is balanced by the lighter leg on the dining room chairs, and all that deep color is balanced with lighter trim and carpeting.

I think a simple table like this (but larger) looks very much like a mid-century modern place. If "tone" is too off from dining room cabinets, we can consider changing the "dark panels" on the aluminum doors
