Cynthia Taylor-Luce Aha! Well, go to your flooring retailer and buy some of the product they use for sealing cork floors. Then give your finished mat several coats of it, and reapply in the future every once in a while to keep the water and dirt from being absorbed into the cork. What creative people you two are! :)
Monica Ewing I would recommend NOT seal the wine cork mat. Please see this post: http://www.craftynest.com/2010/03/sealing-wine-corks-test/ That should answer your question. As for hair or dirt, use a vacuum attachment to vacuum it off every once in a while.
Wine corks hold a wealth of possibilities after the bottle is long gone. Houzz user Monica Ewing repurposed hers into a crafty bath mat, and you can too by following her helpful tutorial.
Redemption: As I said earlier, no redemption for sins around the house is required. However, if you feel like you may need some after a greed/gluttony double whammy (dipping into too much of that wine collection), you can reverse the bad karma by turning the corks into an eco-friendly bath mat. Not that industrious? Drop them off at a ReCORK collection spot so that they can be repurposed as shoe soles. More:Small Ideas for Big ResultsAdding Color to Your Blank CanvasWine Cellars That Shine
Make a bathmat. Monica from The Crafty Nest put together this chic bathmat using 175 collected wine corks, a hot glue gun, and a non-adhesive shelf liner. Read her post for more details.
Art. Everyone loved art class. The art teacher was usually eccentric and wore handmade jewelry. There was a group of kids who excelled at art; the things they made from scratch were just incredible. Notice this shower mat made from wine corks. I think I found one of those kids right here on Houzz.
