When the homeowners purchased this Victorian family home, they immediately set about planning the extension that would create a more viable space for an open plan kitchen, dining and living area. Approximately two years later their dream home is now finished. The extension was designed off the original kitchen and has a large roof lantern that sits directly above the main kitchen and soft seating area beyond. French windows open out onto the garden which is perfect for the summer months. This is truly a classic contemporary space that feels so calm and collected when you walk in – the perfect antidote to the hustle and bustle of modern family living.
Carefully zoning the kitchen, dining and living areas was the key to the success of this project and it works perfectly. The classic Lacanche range cooker is housed in a false chimney that is designed to suit the proportion and scale of the room perfectly. The Lacanche oven is the 100cm Cluny model with two large ovens – one static and one dual function static / convection with a classic 5 burner gas hob. Finished in stainless steel with a brass trim, this classic French oven looks completely at home in this Humphrey Munson kitchen.
The main prep area is on the island positioned directly in front of the main cooking run, with a prep sink handily located to the left hand side. There is seating for three at the island with a breakfast bar at the opposite end to the prep sink which is conveniently located near to the banquette dining area. Delineated from the prep area by the natural wooden worktop finished in Portobello oak (the same accent wood used throughout the kitchen), the breakfast bar is a great spot for serving drinks to friends before dinner or for the children to have their meals at breakfast time and after school.
The sink run is on the other side of the L shape in this kitchen and it has open artisan shelves above for storing everyday items like glassware and tableware. Either side of the sink is an integrated Miele dishwasher and a pull out Eurocargo bin to make clearing away dishes really easy. The use of open shelving here really helps the space to feel open and calm and there is a curved countertop cupboard in the corner providing space for storing teas, coffees and biscuits so that everything is to hand when making hot drinks.
The Fisher & Paykel fridge freezer has Nickleby cabinetry surrounding it with space above for storing cookbooks but there is also another under-counter fridge in the island for additional cold food storage. The cook’s pantry provides masses of storage for dry ingredients as well as housing the freestanding microwave which is always a fantastic option when you want to keep integrated appliances to a minimum in order to maximise storage space in the main kitchen.
Hardware throughout this kitchen is antique brass – this is a living finish that weathers with use over time. The glass globe pendant lighting above the island was designed by us and has antique brass hardware too. The flooring is Babington limestone tumbled which has bags of character thanks to the natural fissures within the stone and creates the perfect flooring choice for this classic contemporary kitchen.

A cook’s kitchen through and through; we loved working on this modern country farmhouse kitchen project. This kitchen was designed for relaxed entertaining on a large-scale for friends staying for the weekend, but also for everyday kitchen suppers with the family.
As you walk into the kitchen the space feels warm and welcoming thanks to the soothing colour palette and Smithfield weathered oak finish. The kitchen has a large dining table with incredible views across the rolling East Sussex countryside. A separate scullery and walk in pantry concealed behind cabinetry either side of the French door fridge freezer provide a huge amount of storage and prep space completely hidden from view but easily accessible. The balance of cabinetry is perfect for the space and doesn’t compromise the light and airy feel we love to create in our Humphrey Munson kitchen projects.
The five oven AGA, set within a bespoke false chimney, creates a main focal point for the room and the antique effect mirror splashback has been installed for a number of reasons; it bounces the light back across the room but also helps with continuing conversations with guests seated at the island. This is a sociable kitchen with seating at the island to serve drinks and quick appetisers before dinner, or to sit with coffee and a laptop to catch up on emails.
To the left of the AGA is countertop storage with a bi-fold door which provides essential shelving for larger countertop appliances like the KitchenAid mixer and Magimix. Following on from the countertop cupboard is open shelving and the main sink run which features a large Kohler sink and Perrin & Rowe Athenian tap with rinse. To the right of the AGA is another countertop cupboard with a bi-fold door that not only balances the space in terms of symmetry, but conceals the breakfast cupboard which is perfect for storing the coffee machine, cups and everyday glassware.
The large island is directly opposite the AGA and has been kept deliberately clear so that cooking and preparing food on a larger scale for family or friends staying all weekend is easy and stress free. The dining area which is just off of the main kitchen in the orangery seats six people at the table and is perfect for low key dining for a few friends and weekday meals.
Directly opposite the island is a bank of floor to ceiling Smithfield Oak cabinetry that has a Fisher & Paykel French door refrigeration and freezer unit finished in stainless steel in the centre, while either side of the fridge freezer is a walk in scullery and walk in pantry that helps to keep all clutter hidden safely out of site without having to leave the kitchen and guests.
We love the modern rustic luxe feel of this kitchen with the Nickleby cabinetry on the perimeter run painted in ‘Cuffs’ and the island painted in ‘London Calling’ it has a really relaxed and warm feeling to the space, particularly with the weathered bronze Tetterby pull handles and Hexham knobs. This is the ‘new neutral’ and really about creating a relaxed and informal setting that is perfect for this beautiful country home.

This Rangemaster Nexus SE 110 induction looks great in this contemporary Shaker kitchen. The inset handles are our bespoke handle range and they come in a wide variety of finishes. The false chimney hides an integrated extractor, and the freestanding shelves on either side keep the wall from looking too cramped. The shelves are painted in French Grey Mid by Little Greene whilst the cabinets are in Ho Ho Green.

The owners of this residential property were looking to modernise and declutter a tired interior. We undertook a complete transformation of this living space providing them with a beautiful contemporary environment within which to relax and unwind. Using a natural and calming colour scheme we created a light filled space with accents of bright colours for added character.
A focus of our brief for this project was the creation of much needed storage. We designed and had made unique wall-to-wall, sleek units that were designed to fit the space and house an array of media, objects and articles. The unit also incorporated specialist glazing allowing uninterrupted AV signals to all media without any unsightly electronic equipment having to be on view. The room also featured a high end, integrated surround sound and mood lighting system.
This project involved structural amendments with a false chimney breast being built and existing dividing wall with double doors being removed to provide a better structure and flow to the living and dining areas.
Bespoke furniture in the form of made to measure sofas and further bespoke cabinetry to compliment the focal wall-to-wall units added to this sophisticated but warm and welcoming interior.

A bespoke painted Shaker kitchen in Godalming. The banquette seat by the window adds an elegant element to this kitchen. The large false chimney hides a structural pier whilst the antique mirror splashback bounces off light from the garden. The open shelves are perfect for glassware.

Another view of the chunky chopping block that our client wanted. We love the curved lines in this kitchen, not just on the island but also on the false chimney which can be seen in the background. The island is painted in 'Putti' by Little Greene and the perimeter units are in 'Whitening'. The rest of the worktops are Silestone Daria.

This false chimney pier has a clever pull-out storage solution for spices and other items that you might want to have handy whilst cooking. One of our favourite features in this Shaker kitchen. The hob is by Sub-Zero Wolf and the hidden extractor is a Westin Cache Modular extractor fan. The worktops are Silestone Daria.

One of our favourite kitchens to design, our client wanted a kitchen that was practical in day-to-day life but also one that can be used to entertain guests. The client also wanted clever storage solutions, such as utilising the false chimney piers for storing spices. We created a round walnut bar table for one end of the island, and it is matched with a round chopping block at the other end. The cabinet colour in this kitchen is 'Whitening' (41) by Little Greene Paint Company, with the island painted in 'Putti" (292). The worktops are Silestone's Daria quartz.
