Business Description
For over 50 years, professional kitchen designers from coast to coast have looked to Dura Supreme for cabinetry that fulfills their customer’s desire for personalized design choices and outstanding quality of construction. For most homeowners, designing a new kitchen is a once-in-a-lifetime endeavor and it involves one of the most important areas of your home. We recognize the magnitude of that decision and we are honored to be entrusted with your kitchen project.

Dura Supreme was founded in Minnesota by Donald Stotts in the 1950s with a vision of delivering outstanding value along with outstanding design choices in hand-crafted cabinetry. Perhaps it’s our Midwestern work ethic and our “Minnesota Nice” approach to customer satisfaction that has ensured the success of that vision as Dura Supreme quickly gained recognition throughout the region and across the country.

Fifty years and ten facility expansions later, Dura Supreme now employs over 550 people at our 220,000 square foot manufacturing facility located west of Minneapolis. Company President, Keith Stotts (son of the original founder) continues to lead the company based on the guiding principles of quality and innovation that were established from the beginning.

There have been a lot of changes over the years. Dura Supreme is heavily invested in state-of-the-art, computerized equipment, machinery and finishing systems to provide the perfect balance of precision, quality and value. And yet the true cabinetmaker’s craft has a home here as well – dovetail joinery, hand-turned posts, hand-applied finishes and unique, one-of-a-kind furniture pieces crafted by hand. For you, this means you have the creative freedom to create the kitchen of your dreams without breaking your budget.

Dura Supreme is backed by a limited LIFETIME warranty – your assurance of exemplary quality and a solid investment.

small bathroom? Wall-hung commode gives more floor space and is easier to keep clean. Wall hung washbasin ditto, though you could have a floating vanity too. Open shower - you just need waist-high walls for the most part. Give as much space as you can for the shower to minimise splashing. My bathroom is 5'x8' and I even have a washing machine in it, though this was at the expense of the shower. My guest bathroom has a similar layout minus machine, and my guests say the shower space is fine. You can even take a shower without throwing out the exercise ball!

For a few hundred dollars the below scenario that I see far too often could have been avoided.
(((97somtea
I'm now 6 months into remodeling a 1920 colonial, which is also my first house. I didn't want to pay for a contractor, so as a 33-year-old single woman with limited construction experience and a regular 50-hour-a-week job, I am my own contractor. It's been a nightmare. Every little decision is mine. Scheduling is up to me. Supervision is up to me. And EVERYTHING has gone wrong. That electrical box image cracked me up- that's me. Asbestos? Yep. Water damage? Yep. Structural damage? You got it. I've gutted half the upstairs and the entire kitchen. I'm 2x over my budget and will be broke when I'm done. I haven't slept in months. I've been sick non-stop. If I could go back and not buy the house I would. I hope I love it when it's done and the joy of designing my home will overshadow all the stress in the end...)))

By having a major defect inspection done before buying the property.
This is not a lip stick inspection you need a seasoned inspector preferably with structural repair, contracting experience.
Or by a licensed contractor who specializes in old homes.
They will be aware of problems and fixes common to 1800 and early 1900 homes.
You could also hire a contractor to help out with finding and outlining repairs major fixes then take it from there.

Not that we know it all, I found a different style 1800s lock that had me stumped for a few minutes. Knowing that the lock did not appear to be missing any parts I puzzled it out helped by knowing it had been together and working before.
Actually it was fun to fine something so different and would not have been a puzzle if I had taken it off the door originally.

What is it with people not having/wanting tubs anymore :( I love taking baths, and noticed in this current house hunt that a lot of people either got rid of the tub or never opted for one. It's a little bit of a deal breaker for me. My daughter seems to be the same way, so our house will definitely need at least two tubs LOL.

As far as accessibility goes in a bathroom, it is not just for the elderly, it is also great for when you're pregnant, recovering from an injury or surgery, or just general sore muscles/joints. I hated that I was only able to take baths when the other half was home, when I was pregnant, since I needed his help in and out of the tub.....

As I mentioned above, a window doesn't help at night, & most likely won't provide light without shadows. Side lighting at eye level at the mirror, & dimmers in general will provide the best lighting.

One thing to keep in consideration when you plan your island is how you think you will most use it. My mom has a taller island but mine (see above a few comments) is fairly low. My mom was telling someone that "we" like a higher counter on our islands. I had to correct her on that one because while she mostly uses hers for chopping and serving, I mostly use mine for baking and other food prep. A lower height makes rolling out pie dough and kneading bread dough much easier because you can put your weight into it. If you have room, then you can enjoy the luxury of a multi height island, but I don't have room.

We're not big wine drinkers, but this article confirms what I have been considering. I am going to move the wine from the kitchen to our entryway. I can always use more storage space in the kitchen. Plus the entryway stays cool year round, is dark, and I can grab (re-gift) a bottle on my way out the door to go to a party!

We searched high and low for the perfect wine storage rack to fit our needs. Finally scored it for $100 off Craigslist. It holds about 50 bottles plus about 2 dozen glasses of assorted sizes. It fits perfectly under our stairway which was a difficult area to furnish in our living room. The space stays fairly dark unless we have all the lights on. We absolutely love it and wine doesn't last long enough in our home for it to have time to go bad.

Poseurs? Really? If we purchase wine because we either enjoy consuming it ourselves, or sharing it with friends, then we need a place to store it. Whether the storage is built in, freestanding, wall hung, or table top, it does a job. And if it looks decorative at the same time then even better! I guess there may be some who use wine bottles simply as decoration with no intent to ever consume it. So perhaps they could be tagged with your label.

As for the box wine, we love us some of that too! We have Saltillo tile floors in our kitchen, utility room and mud room. Our box wine stays at a very cool temp just sitting on the floor in the mud room.

My Very Own Craft Room is my current project! It used to be my quarantine period foster kitty room, but I am transforming it. So far I have collected a pink floral fabric covered dress form, a green framed chalk board, a white framed cork board and gathered up the many floral boxes I've saved over the years. An old white vintage screen door, topped with glass, will become my craft table once I buy some legs for it. A bookcase from the loft will be painted white for supply storage. I'll bring my peg board up from the garage, paint it and use it as an inspiration board. I like to scrapbook, decoupage, sew pillows and slipcovers, create greeting cards and want to try new things. Such fun to look forward to.
